Very annoyed..

Very annoyed..

Background, I did some work for a family friend for free and didnt charge anything.
Weeks pass and she has my uncle deliver a present for me wrapped in a store paper. Its a Lenox frame with my thank you picture inside. Now I loved the idea. It was very thoughtful.
But I go to return the frame today b/c I already have a lenox frame that matches my china set only to find out it wasnt bought at Fortunoff. They checked my registery and the history of people who bought this frame and she is not on their.
I was so bumped, I had plans for the $ to buy other items from my registery.
So Anyone would like to purchase this one from me, it may match your china set or make a great gift. I just dont have room for it.
We have a small house and the china cabinet is packed already.

Is it a rule that people have to buy from a registry? I'm new at this registry thing and am not sure where the annoyed part comes in?

No its not a rule that you have to buy from a registry but she went to the trouble to wrap it like it came from that store that is the annoying part.
and she is registered there too.
but didnt purchase it there.
I dont care if she got me something off the registry. I was annnoyed that I was fooled into thinking it.

That happened to me with so many gifts. I had the items on my registry and then they bought it at another store. You'd think they would realize (if they don't give you a gift receit) if you get a duplicate you will have to return it and that the best way to do that is to buy from the store you are registered at. That is so fustrating, because now I have a few duplicates (ofcourse neither of them at my store) and I have two of a few things. I wound up having to give them away to my mom or MIL or I just kept them.

If it's one of their items, I don't see why you can't return it and just say that it was a regular gift...

That was kind of boneheaded on her part. Wouldn't you eventually find out? Duh? I hope you get a good price for it! All the best.

Will Fortunoff's take it back and give you a store credit? Or is there a lennox store, or Macy's.....just say that you received it as a gift. A lot of places will take it back, and give you a store credit for it. Then you can use the credit to purchase something else.

I'd bet someone bought it for her from Fortunoffs - that would explain why it's in Fortunoff paper but doesn't show up on your registry.

We were able to return Fortunoff's items that weren't on the registry for store credit. I'm surprised they're denying you.

it wasnt that it was not on my registry it was that it didnt have the F stamp on it.
so that signifies to them that it was not pruchased at fortunoff, regardless of the registry.

I have no idea if this is the case here, but we did find that not all gifts purchased at Fortunoff's show the name of the person who bought it. At my daughter's shower, some of the gift cards got mixed up. Before calling friends to see who bought them, I tried fortunoff's. They said they didn't have a record of them because they were purchased from the store and not online.

PS. I see your comment now about the F stamp. Yes, they are very strict about that. Can you get to the Lenox outlet store in Secaucus or Riverhead? I think they are more lenient about store credits.

Gee that store takes themselves really seriously, huh?

My FH got my ering there and had a MISERABLE experience - if he could have purchased it someplace else, he would have.

Love their stuff - but I have no stomach for the attitude.
