Very Curly Hair

Very Curly Hair

I want to wear my naturally curly hair down at my wedding. I have already purchased a beautiful tiara from Thomas Knoell. I really need suggestions about hair dressers who specialize in curly hair and could do a good job styling my curly hair. For those of you with curly hair, you know that most hair dressers are clueless. I was thinking of doing a half up half down style. Please post pics if you have them and also the name and number of the stylist.

I really appreciate it..

I go to Ouidad in the city. They specialize in curly hair. I have been very happy with them.

I second them, they did great work to my curly/wavyhair.
I saw this girl with hair down to her butt and super frizzy walk in, she walked out with the most beautiful tame curls I've ever seen.

Re: Very Curly Hair

Thanks for the ouidad tip, I've been there too and they do a great job. But they haven't been very accomodating with regad to my wedding which is why i posted. My wedding is on a Saturday night and they cannot let anyone from the salon take a day off to come to my house on Long Island to do my hair. She said it would cost over 800 dollars to let a stylist take a day off from work to go to LI. So i suggested that they recommend someone who is off that day...they claim 'no one takes off.' it was all kind of rude and very disappointing. So now I'm still in a search. But thanks.

Quidad herself is off on Saturday's She's only in like 2x a week now that she got 'big' and famous

Evidently, Ouidad herself would cost upwards of $800. I just think its so rude of them to claim that no one has off on a Saturday. They don't want their stylists making a profit of their own on the side. Thats all its about. I wish I could travel into the city on Saturday, but I feel like that would be so hectic and draining in order to be back in time to get ready around 3ish.

Too bad about Ouidad. You would think they would be a little more accomodating. I've noticed on their website that they have 'Certified Salons.' Are there any close to you.

I have also heard about another salon in the city -- Devachan. Phone: (212) 274-8686. I've never tried them but have heard good things. I've actually been meaning to try them since they are less expensive than Ouidad. I'm not sure whether all their stylists do curly hair, like Ouidad's do.

i'm new at this...how exactly do i find that thread?

Re: Very Curly Hair

I just got my hair cut yesterday at a salon that uses Ouidad products and their supposed 'famous' slicing and carving technique. What a waste of money. The haircut is good, but nothing that any hairstylist couldn't do. They also charged me $60 for their 'special' deep conditioning treatment, which was nothing more than putting conditioner in my hair and putting a cap on me then sitting me under the drier for 10 minutes.
Anyway, sorry to get off the subject! Just had to vent!!!! (the salon is here in Virginia in case you're wondering).

In this picture I doubt you can see my hair, but it's a half-up half-down. It was very simple; my hair was just pulled back on the sides and the curls were pinned towards the back top of my head.

I just noticed that the picture is too small to see. Let me try another one....

You can't see much of my hair here either - I went by myself to the salon so there was nobody to take pictures

I just wanted to say that I love the Thomas Knoell stuff. I think I might get my hair pins from him...

Re: Very Curly Hair

I had over five hair trials and the only person who was able to give me the curls I wanted was Tarale (my hair is naturally straight but permed and she worked with my curls rather than creating them from scratch). She's pretty inexpensive too! ($125) Her # is 516-448-0690. Here's a close-up pic.

Thank you for your info. Where is this person located and does she come to your house on the day?

Re: Very Curly Hair

I know she lives on L.I., but I'm not sure where but she does travel to you the day of the wedding.

Re: Very Curly Hair

try coutney at OHM salon in huntington on NY Ave. I usually go to Ouidad int he city and I'm very picky about who touched my hair and she has done an amazing job and knows all the right products. She has curly hair herself so she can sympathize with the hassle of fdealing with curls, frizz, layers, trianle head, etc.

I highly recommend Christine at The Glamour Inn in Oyster Bay! My hair is extremely curly and she works wonders on my locks!
