I apologize in advance, but I'm trying to work out my budget. I know BM's pay for their own attire...does that include their hair and makeup? I have been looking in books to find out, but don't see it. So again, sorry for the stupid question...

That's not a stupid question. It depends on their financial situation and if you would like to offer it to them. My BM are paying for their own, but I did offer to pay for one to have their make up done since it was expensive. I think it is up to you.

Mine paid for their own. If it's in your budget though I think it would be a great gesture.
p.s. - no question is ever dumb

Re: Very DUMB question...I'm sorry
In the weddings I've been in I've always paid to get my own hair & makeup done... but sometimes brides will pay as their gift to their bridal party.
My sister was just in a wedding where the brides friend, who is a great hairstylist, did all of the BM's hair for free as a gift to the bride. But... they were all on their own for their make-up.

I think it depends-it is something you should communicate with them on from early on. I asked my girls if they wanted it done, and they said yes, they would pay. I had a friend that surprised all her girls with it as their 'gift'. I do not think they are 'supposed' to pay for it, like the dress. It would be unfair to impose that expense on them, especially if they feel like they can do it themselves. If you are going to insist hair and makeup should be done professionally, I would say you should pay. It's really up to you and how you want to communicate it.

Re: Very DUMB question...I'm sorry
Anytime I was a BM or my friends were, we paid for it ourselves.
I think that if you insist that they get their hair and makeup done than you should offer to pay for it...however, most times (in my experience) bridemaids's choose to do this without being forced to (at least hair anyway) and pay for it themselves.
If you want to offer, you can include it as part of their BM gift.
Good luck!

I would really like to have the makeup done. Hair I just think is a wise thing to do. 3 out of my 5 BM have naturally curly hair which they straighten. I'm getting married in Aug outside. It's usually humid that time of year, so I think it would be nicer to have their hair in an up. I think it's very elegant, and will also help combat any frizz. I am actually have my hair done up because I also straighten.

I think I will discuss w/ my BM's and see what they want to do. I know I will def pay for my FH younger sister because of financial reasons. Our budget is extremely tight because we are preparing to pay for everything ourselves. I don't think I want to insist on it though.

Re: Very DUMB question...I'm sorry
I was in one wedding where the bride gave us all a gift certificate to have our hair done as part of our gift. To tell you the truth, I appreciated it more than the earrings she gave us, which weren't my style and I haven't worn since.
I would be very put out if a bride that I was a BM for INSISTED we get our hair/make up done. I don't think it's really that important for all of the girls to have the same hair JMO
