WOW!! I havent heard about these is years. When I was in college I took a Womans Study class and we discussed many alternative ways of feminie protection. And this was one of them!! You would be surprised what else is out there!!
Im sure if you asked your grandmothers (or great-grandmothers) they would tell you that they used cotton or muslin for thier monthly and they had to wash them out. That is where the term 'on the rag' came from. I'm sure that many think that is gross. I know now in this day and age, woman are working out to of the house, doing much more than the woman before us did and so the convincance of 'modern' protection arose.
If anyone read the book 'The Red Tent' remember that the woman went into seclution for a week while they had their periods and it was their time to spend with other woman. Could you imagine telling your boss that you have to have a week off each month to 'celebrate' your monthly?!?!?!

Re: Very personal question
I've used this!! I use it while I'm on vacation. Its easy to put in, you DO NOT use the same cup over and over! The first few times I took it out it was messy, but I've become really good at not 'spilling' You can wear it twice as long as you do a tampon, and there's no leakage.

I've used these before... and you NEVER re-use these cups. They are a lot better than tampons and 1000x's better than pads. They are a bit scary to get used to in the beginning, but just like anything, once you do it a couple of times... they are okay.

Re: Very personal question
the one my roommate used in college was re-usable. It was the same cup all the time (and she'd leave it around the bathroom grossing us all out).

It seems that the only benefit is how frequently you need to change it. Doesn't seem to be worth the effort.

Re: Very personal question
I hate this part of being a woman so bad, that I would not even consider this...it looks icky and I would probably make a mess. I just recently started using tampons so imagine me and this mess

Re: Very personal question
It's a little messy at first until you get used to it but they work GREAT!!! Plus you don't have to carry 10000 tampons everywhere it lasts for like 8 hours.

Re: Very personal question
I tried this once, and wasn't so thrilled with it. Yes, it takes some practice to get in (and out!), and yes, it was messy! The biggest thing for me is that as a nurse, I'm neurotic about washing my hands, and I'd practically do a surgical scrub before changing the darn thing! It was too time consuming! Pads and 'pons are just easier
