Very scary thing happened to me the other night....
Scary and strange story about people who have keys to the houses you are now living in!!!!
We closed on our house in November and for about a week until we changed the locks, the old owners and everyone in world with a key decided to continue strolling in and out of our house. We offcially moved in on New Years Day. Thursday night, my dogs went CRAZY and started barking at the front door. We have a sunroom which we made in to a den, and when the door is closed, there is no way they can get to teh door. I was really aggravated because it was 9.15 at night, but my dogs generally don't bark unless there is someone there. I tried to distract them with a cookie, then jelly beans and then their dinner. When they didn't even finish their dinner, I knew there was a problem. I called BRian and he said to go to the door (while he stayed on the phone)and look again. There was a figure in my front door trying to get in with a key!!!! I locked the door leading to the den and tell him someone was trying to get in!!!! I hung up with him, grabbed the cordless and go back to the door. I looked again~the person was still there!!! I called the police and within minutes, they showed up. Unfortunately, the person was not. They looked around my property and found no one. They hung around a while outside while layed in bed with the covers over my head until I fell asleep...
God knows who eles has had keys to my house or who has tried to get in while I have been out!!!!

Was it a drug persons house or something? Not to be cold about it but. If you closed on the house dont you think that t hey would have told the other people who had a key. JMO it is scary and Im glad you called the cops. If that happened to me I would have called my brother to sit with me. the night or my dad

Honestly~I don't know whta went on in this house. We have about 12 different names of mail coming to this house, I have keys for locks on every door in the house....it was so strange! In january, some woman in a black SUV hung out in front of the house and stared in the frint door for a few minutes, and when I went to the door and she saw that I saw her, she drove off like a nut without any lights on the truck! So, I really have no idea what this was used as, a drug house, a borading house or worse!!!!! ANd I am in Lynbrook~not in a bad area. Just a weird situation.
I should have called my parents, they live a few blocks from here...

wow!!! the good thing is that you have something on police record so that should something else happen, you have evidence of it. did the police tell you if the house was ever visited by them before?

The person left by the time I called them and they got there. We have all new locks, we knew they were weird when they just wouldn't MOVE OUT! They just kept coming back....

Wow, very scary....I'd definitely change the locks ASAP or look into an alarm system...thank goodness for your doggies!!!

yikes that is so scary! I would get an alarm, expecially with a baby on the way. I hope no one comes back!

Wow that is creepy. Do you know any of your neighbors? Maybe they can't tell you what used to go on their.
Even in nice neighborhoods there is always at least one weird house.

I would get an alarm system just to be safe. And ask the neighbors for their take of the situation - they might be able to offer more insight.

OMG Laurie!! Please be careful!! I would seriously invest in an alarm system. Especially for those nights you'll be home alone with the baby. I know your little watchdogs have a mean bite but you need to protect yourself and the baby. I got a system from ADT and it is the best money I've ever spent. No amount is worth your peace of mind.
I had some wackos attached to my house too, they just don't go away

That's scary. Maybe ask the neighbors about the previous owners.
You did change the locks, so you should feel secure, but getting Multi Locks may help. They're heavy duty locks that lock with a key from the outside AND inside, and you use this credit card thing to get new keys made, you cant amke them without it, so you are DAMN sure about who has keys or not. We have them on both my mom's house and my FH's apartment, and we feel really secure with them. It may help...ALso, I don';t know if you can afford it, or how much it tunes, but a security camera might make you feel beter
