I have been trying to set up appointments to meet with Djs and I am very upset with the responses from the djs. I am planning from MD and I can't meet during the week. I only want a dj for four hours becuase we don't need music during the cocktail hour.
Tonight I had someone tell me that he WILL NOT meet with me on the weekend, WILL NOT give me a price break even though I need him for one less hour than he usually works and even worse, he told me that if I can find a dj who can meet with me during a weekend then that is a dj who is subpar otherwise he would be booked up like this person is the weekend I will be in town, and every weekend until November.
How will I find a good dj??? He actually told me that as far as he is concerned, if he doesn't book my wedding, he will book somthing else that night. I have gotten this vibe from a few djs. They don't seem to respond until I email or call at least twice. Where does this attitude come from???
I don't want to spend a fortune, but on the other hand I want someone who cares about my wedding. I am tired of hearing the threat - your dj will make or break your wedding.
I am ready to burn some cds and play them myself
Please give me names for reasonably priced NICE djs who wont treat me like a freak for expecting someone who will get paid a nice chunk of change to meet with me the only time I (the customer) can meet with him. In the alternative, someone who will send a demo!

Call Invitation to Dance. We're using them. They're really good and very nice, and very professional. You don't have to use them for the Cocktail Hour. They charge extra if you need that, but you don't have to. Good luck!

I had a wonderful experience with Dance Jock, and they have received a TON of business from my friends and me because we've all been so happy with their management and entertainers. I highly recommend calling them. They are wonderful, friendly, and super accommodating. If you do end up calling, I can give you my last name so they'll know who referred you. Good luck!

I forgot to mention that for the last year and a half, I've been planning my wedding from North Carolina. So I know how you feel. But, Invitation to Dance was very accomodating. They knew my situation, and my MC arranged to come in and meet me on a Saturday, (he normally isn't there on Sat.), also it was Christmas weekend. Definitely call them. They have a very funny demo. That's how we saw them. They sent it to us. You don't have to send it back either. We had to send a bunch back to other DJs.
Hi, Try IN THE MIX DJ. You can get the contract through the mail, sign it and then send it back with a deposit. We just booked them.

I had decieded to use a dj for my small wedding reception, i was orginally not going to have music as this is just family..and we are having a big reception later, well i started to email djs. to see what the price would be for a four hour dinner, now i am not having all the traditional things pretty much just our dance and the parents,,Burke entertainment was so nice answered my emails with in the hour of sending them. asked me what i could afford,.. well, now we are booked with them at a VERY VERY reasonalbe price. I feel very confident that they are going to give me exactly what i want.

That does sound very aggrivating. Believe me, I know how frustrating businesses can be and how there seems to be a severe lack of customer service from those who are supposed to be providing it.
With that said, I have to say our DJ, Eddie Terryn of Parameters was very accomodating not only during the planning stages of our wedding, but also prior to signing with him. He made the trip out to our house a couple of times, and when it came to crunch time for us, with less than a month to go til the wedding, Eddie met with us in convenient locations to go over what we needed. I was still working both jobs while trying to finalize all the last details, and found this exceptionally helpful. Oh, and by the way, he does have a wonderful demo cassette tape with a wide variety of music.

My DJ met with me on the weekend. I can't rember if it was a Sat or Sun. He's Al from Albert Lee Music and his number is 631-654-3665. He is very nice and accomodating. And he did give us a break on the price for only 4 hours. Adn he is reasonably priced to begin with. I haven't had my wedding yet, so I don't have a review, but I think he is worth giving a call.

Call Tom at Spin Around Sound. Tell him a lot of people suggested him. And Invitation to Dance gets great feedback on here too. tom negotiated with me no problem - and I needed him for the hour less. He was fine with it.

I used Tommy Tunes, and had Joe as our MC. He is such a personable guy. Everytime we met with him, he made you feel like he knew you for a lifetime. Everyone raved about how great he was. In fact a frined of mine is getting married next year, and is using him.

DJ's will drive you crazy. One tells me, 'you don't want lights, what are you nuts?' then the very next night, a DJ tells me, lights, what do you need lights for? they are way more expensive than I thought, I'm so nervous about them, it's driving me nuts! Needless to say, we haven't booked yet!

Tom at Spin arond Sound met us at HIS house on two weekends - gave us a tour and everything. granted they were at odd hours - Sunday night and Saturday at noon- but he was very accomodating. THey did a fantastic job at the wedding too and we did most of our communication over email.
I know how frustrating it is to be treated so poorly by someone you're interested in doing business with - what company gave you such a hard time? not to vendor bash, but if people have that bad an attitude, other people should know. Good luck with all your planning

Another vote for Spin Around Sound! Tom is so nice, we met with him at his house and sat in his gazibo (sp?) he offered us something to drink and was so accomodating. It was like talking to a friend. Give him a try!
