videographer??

me and FH were talking yesterday and i came up with (what i think is) a great idea..

instead of a videographer (which is out of our budget)--we can take our DVD video camera and pass it from table to table..like start with us and move it around the room. this way we will see the wedding from everyones point of view..

is this a dumb alternative?

I think it is a cute idea! I do think you should have someone who is really good with a video camera. My mom got remarried in 11/07 and she had some friends use my bro in laws camera and it was terrible. Really shaky and dark. So just make sure you get an accurate account of the ceremony ya know? Just my opinion! :)

I think its your final decision to make, however, if you ask on the other boards, girls who didn't hire a videographer did regret it. The day goes by so fast, that the only way you see all the action is if you have it recorded. The passing the video idea could work, however your guests will want to eat, dance, socialize, etc.-- and putting the responsibility on them to record your event may be burdensome in my opinion. My guests like to drink and dance and I don't trust them to record my wedding...lol. Honestly, I would first see if I could cut corners else where, look for an inexpensive but reliable videographerand get the most basic coverage (at least I'd have a professional tape of the ceremony, toasts, first dance etc.) I used Halo video for my college graduation party. The video was simple, but good quality, and he was inexpensive.

If you find a budget videographer, please do research and ask for recommendations before you book. You can find budget vendors with quality service.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
