Videographer issue

Videographer issue

We are trying to select a videographer and though we want good work, we are on a budget. We met with 3 so far. The first person was the least expensive. He can offer us nice package for about $1,200. The only 'problem' is that he is fairly new (he has been shooting weddings for a while but just opened his own company). The second videographer's package is about $1,500. They offer a bunch of extras and you get 2 videographers. Finally, our photographer works with a videographer and this package is about $2,000. We've watched samples of each of their work and met with them all and they all are very nice and seem to do great work. I told our photographer that we would like to go with their videographer as well but it is a little too pricey given what we are working with. They told me about some of the problems that can come from not working with their guy. Anyone have any experience with this? Who should we go with?

I would choose based on whose work and personality (and price) you like the best. Our BM warned us that companies will try to sell you on the fact that their photo/video people work well together, but that any professionals should be able to work well together with no problems. Made sense to me!

Go with who ever's work you liked the best and felt the most comfortable with. I think it was very unprofessional of your photographer to say that to you because now you are having more stress on already a big decision. Any photographer and videographer would work well together. The photographer wants to keep all the business with him, why not more money in his pocket. Like I said go with who you and your fiance felt comfortable with.

I would not go with the first choice, because I would be scared he is so new. Does he have any sample video's?

I personally would not go with the second choice, because personally I think it would be overwhelming to have two videographers at the wedding. That might get annoying.

Make sure you watch a sample video, with who ever you use. I almost booked someone with out seeing the video, and they were horrible.

that just means they want more of your money. there won't be any problems if you don't use their guy.

Somebody new doesn't necessarily mean they aren't good. See some samples, judge the peronality and get some references. I think it's very unprofessional to bad mouth other vendors. JMO, but I think it's in bad taste.

I agree, photographers and videographers work together all the time, he probably gets a kickback. Remember these people are going to be with you all day too, go with who makes you the most comfortable.....the $$ different isn't HUGE....

ETA: 2 cameras is the direction I would and am going in.....I really want to capture bothe myself and my Dad coming down the aisle as well as FHs reaction....

We are not using the same company for photo and video, and neither one of them said it would be a problem. Don't let that statement from your photographer sway you. I would go with whomever you feel the most comfortable with.
Remember that every business started somewhere. All the companies that are so popular now were once a startup company. See if you can get get samples of the guy's work. Don't let the fact that he is new make your decision.

Thanks, I think I am going towards option 1 or 2, we'll see. Thanks again!

Re: Videographer issue

no photographer should ever say anything about 'problems' that can occur if their video guy isn't used.

I say give the 1st guy a try. That's what we did. When we booked Bliss, no one had ever heard of Jerry. Now, he books like crazy and his prices have doubled

if anything, you having 2 cameras in the getting ready part and ceremony is needed. 2 camera during reception is not needed. imo

also, more expensive DOES NOT equal better quality! just keep that in mind.

my videographer is only $1050 for over 10 hours worth of videoing as well as all the extras and i am very confident i will get what i want. i refused to pay the $2500 the video guy with my photog wanted to charge me.

go with number 1 and put the extra money toward your honeymoon or something!

it's important that the photographer & videographer have good working chemistry.

if I were you, I would try & negotiate with the expensive videogrpaher.

my video guy is 1200- all day, really great nice guy and professional, his work is excellent in my opinion, fm me for details

but, go with who you are comfortable with, who you like personality wise and $$$ wise, amd the quality of his work...dont worry about years in business

I agree, we had 2 when getting ready but at the ceremony and reception I think it would've been too crowded plus we had 2 photographers.

i used skylight (a vendor on here) who was the least expensive i found (i think we pd $1k for the basic package) and i cant rave enough about them. they also did a photo video set to music for the rehearsal dinner (separate fee) which came out amazing. we almost didnt get a video and ironically the videographer wound up to be one of my favorite vendors!
