So we met with our first photographer/videographer a couple weeks ago and FH and I really liked them but had not met with anyone else at that point yet. The company was referred by a friend of FH who is really good friends with both these guys from the company. So they said that since we are friends with this guy they will hold our date for us to give us some time to make a decision and call us should anyone express interest in our date.
Well, I called yest to book them for video and it turns out they didnt hold our date and now the 'main' videographer, who is the only one i've ever actually heard of with this company, is booked. I felt like that was pretty cr@ppy of them, esp since he SAID he'd hold our date and call, if anything. He offered another video guy who he says does all the graphic editing and 'would be even better'. of course he would be.
Another thing was even after all that, AND having the good friend hookup, he wouldnt budge at all on the price. Is this normal? should I be pissed? do i need to just get over it and trust this other videographer with his company? I really like their style over everyone else I've seen. Help!

Re: Videographer - kind of upset & annoyed
I think it totally slipped his mind that he had to hold the date for you and let you know if someone else was showing interest. For him to cancel on the other couple that already reserved him, would be wrong on his part as well. If you're a bit miffed, then I can see why, but I really don't think you have a right to be so pissed off since you never put any money down to hold the date for you, and since this isn't a personal friend of yours. It's actually a friend of a friend. jmo

As much as that feeling su*ks, go with your gut especially if you like the style, mistakes happen, even though they should know better than to cross a soon to be bride, but i'm sure they are a good company!

Unfortunately this how business goes in the wedding industry. Honestly unless the owner said they would give a discount then I would never go in studio with that expectation. Several vendors I met with I went on referrals and they did not budge on the price. The feeling is with most of these vendors is that the real work is after wedding with post production and editing. It is alot of time and effort that is being put in to making an excellent finished product. Do let it get to you there are several great videographers out there.

It totally stinks that that happened-but in all honesty they really dont 'owe' you to keep your date, most places will only hold your date for the most 1 week, MOST-not all. What if they denied taht bride and you didnt book? Its business and you have to keep that in mind no matter if they are friends or not-I cant help you with your decision-I can just say go with your gut. If you are worried about the other videographer then maybe look around at other companies and see what sticks in your mind.

i would be upset with them that they didnt keep their word & hold the date, & for that reason alone i wouldnt book with them. you should keep shopping because you have plenty of time, and there are plenty of excellent videographers out there to choose from.

I would be upset with them! Did you talk to the people who know & recommended them? Maybe they could help you out? If not I would maybe look into another videographer.
Sorry hun!

if its not the videographer u want then its not worth booking unles u think he is as good. normally like some others said - u cannot be mad that they did not hold your date because u put no money down HOWEVER they did say they would so u have the right to be upset .. i'd second guess booking too.

If you are upset and annoyed-I would be too BTW-I would not book with them. There are so many good ones, you will definitely find what you are looking for and not have to worry that something else will go wrong. Good luck

Re: Videographer - kind of upset & annoyed
thanks girls for understanding. I would never just assume that someone would hold a date or walk into a place expecting a discount. But seeing as though they SAID they would hold it due to the mutual friend and CALL if someone expressed interest............neither of those things happened.
Does anyone have any suggestions for other vieographers for me to go see? I'm looking for something a little more off beat and edgy for video. Thanks!

Try Pennylane, they are kinda off beat, but expensive. I also really like (and booked) Golden Moments.

Re: Videographer - kind of upset & annoyed
When I met with my videographer, they told me they'd save the date for me for x days, and after that date they'd release it. And they saved it for me. If they hadn't I'd be SUPER p!ssed off and wouldn't go with them at all.
That's actually one of the reasons I like working with photographers and videographers who are also the owners of their companies...you get much better customer service in my opinion.
Look into Bellarino if you haven't already.
