We weren't going to have this at first. I think we are having plenty of food and it is not necesary. My family is Italian and this is their favorite part of most weddings. A member of my family offered to pay for the vienesse hour as our wedding gift. What would you do?

It depends if you would want that as your wedding gift...IMO I think its great, BUT most of it goes to waste, there is just to much for people to eat.

We weren't going to do one because of the money even though we reallly wanted one (well I did) but last week when we went for our final meeting they gave us a good deal, so it might not be as much as you think, maybe try to find out from someone on here that had their wedding at your catering hall if they work something out close to the end!!

Thats why I don't know what to do! I am having at least 200 people... so I know the cost of the viensse hour would be greater than the gift I would get otherwise.... not that it matters that much to me. I am just not sure because it is not something I ever wanted, but I know my family would love it.

do u think the vienesse hour will take away from the last hour of the reception... what I mean is that instead of everyone dancing and partying the last hour they will be in a seperate room eatting...
FH and I chose not to have it... but also b/c our wedding is a sunday night and its going late enough as it is...
I really don't know what I would do in your situation... why is your family so set on having the veinesse hour? any particular reason?

I am not sure if it would interfere with the last hour of the reception. I would have to ask my hall how it works. My family is not set on having it... My FH and I are paying for the whole recpetion ourselves and I think this person knows that and feels bad for us, and he also knows how much the whole family LOVES the vienesse hour. I think he is just trying to do something nice for everyone, not because they have to have it.

well I feel that if they want to offer the vienesse hour to you for gift I think that is very generous of them... If you decided not to have it would they feel bad? or be upset by it? I guess it would be kind of silly not to have the extra hr is someone offers to pay for it... my friend had a vienesse hour and it looked amazing... even though people will be eatting all night there is always room for a late snack...

I love the vienesse!! FH'S family is italian and it wasnt even an option.. its considered standard There would probably be a huge GASP if we didnt have it lol instead of them gasp'ing if we did
Besides it adds A WHOLE HOUR to you reception!!!

I fought my parents NOT to have it b/c I thought it was too much. They insisted. And now, EVERYONE has commented on that and how awesome it was, they've never seen anything like it, etc. - it was a highlight.

I am going to have to find out how the HTH does the veiensse hour before I can decide. The wedding is already paid for and we are not depending on gift money for anything... so if I decided not to go with it, it wouldn't be for the money. I am going to have to ask on the HTH thread for now.
