Viennese hour

Viennese hour

OK, I already posted this on the BHB board, but it quickly sank to the bottom with only 1 response. Ladies I want your opinions on this! I am having a Viennese hour after my reception from midnight to 1 a.m. My wedding is on a Sunday the day before Columbus Day. I am having second thoughts about the Viennese hour, thinking that people might leave before and it might be a waste of money. What do you think?

Re: Viennese hour

IMO, it would be a waste of money. I cut the viennese hour out of my reception to save $$$ and now I'm thinking of adding an hour back on, BUT minus the whole viennesse spread. I'll still save money - less food, maybe just a simple desert. And my wedding is on a Saturday night.

For a Sunday night wedding, I personally, would not do the viennese hr -- even though it's Columbus Day weekend (we're getting married the same weekend! ) most people DON'T have off that Monday and may leave early. What comfort is it to you if they take the food home? The whole point of the extra hour is so they ARE THERE to celebrate and enjoy it WITH YOU longer! JMO.

We are also having a vienesse hour with a
Sunday night wedding, ask the banquet mgr if they can provide containers for anyone who would like to take food home.

Re: Viennese hour

i went to a wedding that was the sunday before labor day...
they brought the V tables out two hours before the wedding was supposed to end...that whole process took an hour or so...and when they were cleaning up the tables, people started to leave not realizing there was still one more hour to go...the bride was very upset.

Re: Viennese hour

p.s. please don't make your decision about the V.hour to save money...
do it to save the food! it's such a waste!

Re: Viennese hour

Totally agree, Ciminok; I don't plan to cut the Viennese hour simply to save the money; FI and I agree that is a nice extra touch to the wedding but if hardly anybody will be around to eat it seems like a waste of food AND money. Wow, two of you said most people don't have off on Columbus Day, I always thought most people did. But I am hearing of more and more people that don't have off on that day. Thanks for the suggestions girls! Keep them coming!

Re: Viennese hour

Maybe instead of having a whole spread you can have Vieannese trays on each table with some pasteries and cookies, as well as a cordial bar.

Re: Viennese hour

That's pretty much what my place does. My catering manager told me it was a waste of food and money to get the vienese hour (my dad had wanted it) because in addition to the wedding cake, the put pastries and cholcolate dipper friuts on each tabel and the cordials are included too! See if you can do that, it will save you money and less food will be wasted.

IMO, I wouldnt do the V-hour mostly for the time slot. By 12 am, alot of the older guests are tired and starting to head home. Unfortunately not everyone has Columbus Day off ( I personally dont). I'd do the extras on the tables and add maybe 1/2 hr, but a full hour is alot. Again JMO

Re: Viennese hour

I think it could be too much if you have a lot of food all around at the wedding.....I'm not extending my wedding at all. I'm hoping to have some extra $$ to do a chocolate fountain and because my guarantee head count, they threw in an international coffee and cordial bar which includes pastries on each table. That's more than enough food for everyone....and 1am is a bit late considering most people are driving and partying all night....JMO

Re: Viennese hour

we're not doing one. It would bring ours from 12:30 - 1:30,, day before labor day. No way would all the people stay for it. Not worth it.

Re: Viennese hour

I see you are getting married at Crest Hollow. Well, my friend just got married there over the summer and they actually didn't add on the extra hour, but they had the vienesse. Right after they did the cake, they opened up the vienesse area. People who wanted it went over to it. Maybe just eliminating the extra hour and having it when cake is served would be better timewise and people will still be there to enjoy it. I am having a mini vieneese at my wedding. They are going to open it up at cake time and serve it and when it dies down they are going to cart everything away. We didn't want to add any extra time on.

Re: Viennese hour

we decided not to do it because there is always so much food and by the time it comes no one wants ot eat it! (Although my FI wanted it because its they let you take home the extras@! LOL!!!) Its a lot of money for something peoople arent going to eat.

Re: Viennese hour

we decided against it as well... there is so much food during the night that we didnt feel it was nesessary. But if u choose to have it I am sure it will be wonderful...
