I am not particularly thrilled with the Villa as we made our food selection and I was told we can not bring our own menus in. This was not stated in our contract and their menus are UGLY! I hate them. The BM said that it was recently added into the contract BUT we booked over a year ago. Since it was not policy then, I think it is only fair that they let us do it.
I understand their concern as far as liability for allergies BUT a lot of other places do it. If they dont want you bringing in your own then they should offer a variety of choices. I HATE theirs.
I booked this freaking place so far in advance so that the number of surprises would be reduced. The contract we signed mentions no smoke machines, etc BUT they do not mention ANYTHING about the menus.
I am not really a bridezilla when it comes to little details but there are a bunch of people who are. They should be aware of that and make it known. If a theme is really important to a bride and she is told a month and a half before her wedding she has to use menus with an gaudy gold 'Villa Lombardi' stamp and black ink on ivory paper that could be a deal breaker.

Honestly I'd argue it with them - if it's NOT in your contract.. they they don't have too much a leg to stand on, I think...

why do they care if you want to spend more of your own money on menu's? lol. it's not like it costs them anything. that's one of my top places and I really want a purple themed wedding *sighs* I guess there goes that idea of purple menu's if they say no to custom menus lol.
it just seems weird that they care. I'd think they'd go oh ok that's fine. unless they are charging you for menus and you don't want them so they don't get money? like why is it a problem? I really don't get it.
so many places are now doing menus and if they insist that you use theirs they should at least have different colors.
it mentions allergies on it? *sighs* I hate gold ick lol. I wanted to make my future in 2 year menus a purple & silver or something lol. maybe by then they'd have more colors. why do they insist on using theirs though?

i know youre upset but try to look at it in retrospect. would you really not book a place you loved because of their menus? that seems a little silly! people dont pay much mind to menus regardless. people remember the ambiance, the food and the music! these are the details WE as brides look at, but really no one else pays any mind!

I don't understand why your not allowed to bring your own. That makes zero sense to me! I guess I can understand their concerns about food allergies, but if you're just copying their menu word for word and putting it on the paper of your choice what does it matter?

I am sorry it is upsetting you...But it really isn't going to make a difference to your guests...trust me. They must cover themselves for liability issues...They might have had someone 'sue' or try to and it is in their best interest. Keep some of yours for your album and don't worry. My place is just having them done on a computer on white paper..It isn't fancy but it is just to give the dinners a heads up about what is being served.. Most people toss them in the trash...

I see why you are upset but let it roll off your back. I totally see why they don't allow it. Nobody is going to critique your menus and, don't take this the wrong way, but people don't remember those things anyway. Don't let this stress you out!

Maybe if you REALLY want yours used you can bring in the paper or what not and ask them to print on that so that they are still technically in control of it but you get your colors in?

Yes, I got married at Lombardi's on the Sound and had the same issue. It wasn't in my contract bc I booked in 2009 but now they say it's in the contract. Technically, you CAN still bring in your own menus but they are going to charge you like $3 each to proofread them. They don't allow outside menus b/c some shitthead bride thought she should make up her own descriptions for the food and apparently the owners had a shitt fit. SO, now no more outside menus...unless they are proofread. I suckedd it up and used their personal menus. While they were nothing compared to what T e s s a would've made me, they did the job...& I don't think they are THAT hideous. I think it's a better option than having the 2 framed menus on the table that aren't personalized with your names or your food choices.
