Vintage 1920's Theme

Since my wedding venue is a 1920's mansion with great vintage features and decor, i'm considering playing it up and extending it throughout with the decor, flowers, invitations, favors, etc. with a Vintage, Romantic 1920's theme.

Only thing is I don't know much about the 1920's, and when i google it I see mostly art deco stuff that looks too modern and artsy for my taste (think hard lines, bold font, etc.) I also don't want to go completely flapper/gangsta with feathers and such... i want the theme to be subtle but recognizable.

Any ideas?

The thing is, the 1920s WAS art deco - that was the style back then (very futuristic/modern, sleek lines, etc).

Maybe you want to move a little more in the direction of the 1930s...still that glamorous vintage look, but not all flappers and feathers. Think old black & white Fred Astaire and movies, golden age of Hollywood, etc. - still beautiful and fun, but a little softer than the '20s. Bias-cut gowns, old-school flowers (calla lily, rose, gardenia), simple traditional invitations, and All-Star Limos even has a 1933 Packard that is perfect for this theme.

this may be too much info but the Woodlands was completed in 1918, which means the design was more in the Edwardian style then art deco. That period is far more romantic with a deep set tradition in the Art Nouveau style. Lots of curves, and exaggerated floral motifs. It was also the last time in history that women worse corsets daily. The house was then redecorated in 1928- which means you can go with that 1930's classic Hollywood look. The way to bring either of these subtly into your wedding decor would be by using the traditional flowers of the time (which was already suggested) or adding an art nouveau style element to your paper work. you can do your personal style to match the time (hair, make-up, dress, head piece)or add touches of appropriate color (or black and white if going 1930)

You both brought up good points...

My color scheme is deep purple, silver, off white and white, so the dark purple is going to keep with the rich, dark decor.

My plan is to incorporate some romantic and feminine touches... lace, lots of pearls, a few feathers maybe (although i'm not really into that look). I'm thinking of doing something with the curves and lacey florals for the invitations.

Basically instead of limiting myself a decade, i'll just consider it a 'romantic vintage' theme and do it the way i want to without having to stick to one particular idea.

Calla lilies are my favorite flower of all time and the Picasso lilies are perfect for my color scheme. I saw beautiful deep purple roses that would go perfectly so it looks like all of the details i planned on actually fit really well into this.

Thanks for all of your help! i'll definitely look into All Star limos as well for that packard, that would be a really nice touch! I'm also planning on wearing a fascinator veil for the reception. Its really exciting thinking about it all coming to plan!

If All Star doesn't work out, I had a 1930 caddy from Sir Oliver Limo (pics in my review. They do all their own refurbishing, so when i booked (winter 2011) they had an RR and the caddy but were building a second caddy and possibly another antique car
