Visit Cake Bakery Before Or After Menu Selection?

For the ladies whose hall is providing the cake, did you visit the bakery to try the cake samples/fillings before or after you attend the Hall's menu selection?

Thanks!

My place is providing the cake from an outside bakery, but I'm not allowed to go TO that bakery to taste the cake. In fact, they generally DON'T DO a cake tasting. But because someone promised it to me before I booked last year, they are doing it for me as part of my menu picking AT the catering hall. In fact, my reception site doesn't even do a FOOD TASTING!

Mine doesn't do a tasting either, which hall are you booked at? The food is supposed to be good there so they don't do tastings... I'm booked with Westbury Manor.

The Crescent Beach Club.

I asked them if they did a tasting, and the guy said, 'Yeah, it's called our restaurant'.

i went ahead and chose the cake at the hall and then went to bakeries...as i had heard too many 'iffy' reviews on the hall's cake. but i had theirs on back up and didn't 'cancel' it until 1 week before the wedding AFTER i'd finalized the bakery for sure.
