Visited OFC & Waterview Club

Visited OFC & Waterview Club

So this weekend was our first foray into visiting places, it was definitely interesting.

First up was OFC, Tom, the banquet mgr was fabulous. I have a friend who got married there a few yrs ago and raved about him and his attention to detail. He was extremely knowledgable when we spoke to him and was very low key and down to earth which was great.

The space was lovely, right on the sound and the potential cocktail hour/deck area would be gorgeous. The ballroom was also really pretty, but unfortunately just too small for our 150ish guest wedding. The price was also a bit steep, although I think he definitely would have worked with us to bring it down. At this point, since we're not willing to cut our guest list, I don't think it's an option, but I'd definitely recommend it to smaller weddings. (We were quoted $130/pp for Sat. nights in April-June, $110 for Sat. nights in March).

The waterview club. Meh. The ballroom was ok, hardwood floors through which was nice. The cocktail hr would be downstairs in the basement and their patio was quite small. Despite being on the LI sound, there wasn't much ambiance as there was a large parking lot between the building and the water. The bathrooms were also downstairs when the reception would be upstairs. Not loving that idea. Overall, it just didn't have the vibe we were looking for. (We were quoted $85-90/pp for Sat. in April, $120/pp for Sat. in May/June, although I'm confident we could get them down much further).

Next weekend is the Bayview House at Capt. Bills & The Riviera in Massapequa.

By the sound of your post, it seems like you want a place on the water and with the look of Old Field Club. When is your wedding? Are you inviting 150 people or expecting 150 people? If you are inviting 150 people, figure you will end up with about 130-140 people. Would it still be too small at OFC? There are a bunch of other catering halls on the water, but from what I have seen, they don't have the same look as OFC. They tend to be 'more.' There is the Atlantica. But I think it will be the same or more price wise. But i believe the ballroom is larger. And I'd suggest capt. Bills, but it seems you are already visiting them. best of luck!

Well, that's something we're trying to iron out right now. I'd love no more than 130 ppl at the wedding, FI is leaning more towards 150. So, we're working with expected guests between 130-150 right now. Which is why I think it's going to be a bit tight at the OFC.

I called Atlantica and am waiting for them to get back to me. Not sure what price range to expect from them, I'll look around the boards for some quotes.

Thanks for the advice!

for us it was our 7th..we had an appointment right after at another place, but we went and immediately walked out bc we felt it didnt compare to the place we fell in love with..

but i know people who went to about 30 places lol..its the biggest part of the wedding though, so it is the part you should spend the most time on

have you looked into venetian yacht club? fsil just looked there yesterday for about the same number of people, and said its really pretty

I haven't called the VYC yet, we actually live in huntington and ideally wanted to stay closer to home, but are realizing we're going to have to branch out.

Have you ever been to the Riviera? We liked the bridal suite, but we did not like thelayout of the room, the dance floor was tiny and the cocktail hour is connected.
I'm not sure what your vision is, but I figured I'd let you know before making the trip. The BM was also a little rude, she was taking phone calls (with friends) while sitting with us and what she quoted us on the phone is not what she quoted us in person.

We haven't been to too many places on the water, but we have been to 16 already we had my FFIL's surprise 60th at Capt. Bills a few years ago and LOVED the food, but when we went to get prices for our engagement party they quoted us double what we spent on his party, while having pretty much the SAME party...

Have you tried Chateau Le Mer?
