Hi - so I am way behind and am only just starting to visit reception halls (I've only been engaged about 2 weeks) - so here is my question:
How long does the initial reception hall visit usually take? I want to visit a few - all in a row - but am not sure how much time to allot for each visit.
Thanks!

Re: Visiting Rec Halls Question
Hi - Congratulations and welcome! I only met with two halls, and each meeting took about an hour (it was slightly longer with the second one because we signed a contract on the spot).
Good luck!!

Re: Visiting Rec Halls Question
Usually a half hour to 45 minutes. Depends on how much you are going to see...and how big the place is. Then you sit down and are given prices, and packages and look at the menu and ask questions
Remember to alot time for travel also.
Good Luck

Re: Visiting Rec Halls Question
You're not way behind at all! You still have 17 months until your wedding, that's a lot of time.
The visits tkae anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. We found that with palces we didn't like it took less time because we ahd fewer questions. Also some of the more service oriented places will spend more time with you. Definite;y arrage meetings by location and leave enough time in between. One good thing is that crest hollow, fox hollow and north ritz club are all on the same road w/in a mile of each other, so it might be good to find something like that, once you make your list, just go to ones very close. Also, Sand Castle and Stewart Manor Country Club are very close to each other. Floral Terrace isn't far form those either..so try to plan around the east travel time. Good Luck.

Mine also took 45-60 minutes. We were shown around and talked money. What I did was to schedule appointments the same day for halls that were close together (Swan Club, Westbury Manor, Fox Hollow). this way you can be more time efficent. Good luck and keep us posted!!

Thanks! I am just feeling a bit behind reading all the posts on this board (I can't believe how many people have multiple vendors booked and I'm not even certain about my date!) I'm trying to book my hall before V-day - because I am they will book up quick after that!

Re: Visiting Rec Halls Question
Defintely do it before Valentines Day. There will still will things available but you want to make sure that you get the date you want.
Definetely plan to see places based on their proximity to each other. Some of them we didn't even need appointments for because we were off and went during the day on a weekday.

Re: Visiting Rec Halls Question
After visting 15 halls i think i got the hang of it. I first listed the places i wanted to go by location and they were the ones i visited for the day. and go early in the morning on weekends was good for me i did not have to make one appointment. The only time i did is when i picked my final three and brought my fh and my mom back.
Good luck!

Re: Visiting Rec Halls Question
Just to be safe, I always allowed for an hour visit then travel time between halls. Some hall visits took more, some took less. The worst that can happen is that you come early to the second hall and they make you wait and fill out paperwork.

Re: Visiting Rec Halls Question
Welcome!!
When we went to visit our reception hall we were there for 2 1/2 hours. The time spent also depends if you really like the place or not. You will know as soon as you walk in if it is right for you or not.

Re: Visiting Rec Halls Question
I would say about an hour at each. We went to places that were all near each other in a day. Call the halls first and make an appointment if they require one. Scheduling about 2 hours apart is a good bet. Good luck! Let us know how you do!

Re: Visiting Rec Halls Question
if you like the place you will stay longer because you will have more questions.
if you hate the place you may stick around for the intial presentation but you may leave soon after.
i say mimimum- 30 minutes- max - 90 -120 minutes
