I know some of them will negotiate prices and whatnot with you, so is it better to go in there with an 'I know what I want' attitude (regarding date, price, throw-ins) or should I go in there completely open??
(I want to keep to a pretty strict budget but I'm open to most winter dates)

i think you should def go in there sounding like you know what you are talking about so they know you know your stuff

Re: Visiting RH's...
I want to check out:
Fox Hollow Douglaston Manor Westbury Manor Swan Club
...anywhere else that is reasonably priced??
I also might want to check out Sans Souci...they are more $$ I think but I alway drive by and it looks pretty!!
I am very into having windows in my reception room--I am not a fan of feeling closed in.

you will definitely get better deals for winter dates, so that is already a plus! My advice is to go there at least having a general idea of what you want but a lot of the reception halls will do most of the talking since they're trying to 'sell' you the place. There is a helpful list of questions from another thread, I will try to find it and post it on here.

you could also check Chateau Briand, Leonard's of great neck, Crest Hollow Country Club. But i think you'll get great deals since you are looking for a winter wedding!! good luck!!!

Re: Visiting RH's...
If you are open to Jan Feb and Mar those are your best deals and Sunday is the best Wedding day for deals!
You should look into Giorgio's (if you dont mind suffolk). I am biased b/c I am getting married there...but the room is amazing and it has windows all around. I think they will negotiate with you for winter dates. They arent as flexible for peak season. Also, try East Wind. The Country Gardens and Easte Rooms have windows. Banquet rooms within the hotel dont.

Re: Visiting RH's...
best advice i can give it to go in knowing what you want. if you know how much you want to spend per person. then say i want to spend no more then $X per person. if you are not sure how much you want to spend & u just know how many people u want to have just say i will be having X number of people. i went to every place & said i will be having 125 people what can you do for me? i got quotes on all menus for certain months for friday, saturday & sunday. this is one of the reasons why i went with just my sister. we were easily able to say, 'my parents will be paying but they are on vacation & want to see the menus & pricing you offer.'
also don't forget that places add on about 20% tax & 18% gratuity. (i think those are the correct %'s).

I think you should definitely walk in knowing what you want but also telling them you are flexible with dates so they can work with your budget. I brought a huge list of questions, so I was very prepared and asked them everything. I would recommend writing down some questions.

Re: Visiting RH's...
the Riviera in massapequa is reasonably priced as well if you want to check that out.
Also, you might be able to negotiate more if you are open to season, and day (ex friday, sunday, afternoons)

As far as budget goes- know the max you want to spend. And always negogiate- esp. if you find a hall you really like!!

Check out Chateau Briand- thats my favorite reasonably priced out. Its pretty cheap, esp in off months.
Jericho Terrace is beautiful as well, but its a little more money than the other halls.

just so you know, i dont believe swan club budges on their prices... they are cheap enough to begin with so you dont need them to anyways i was able to negotiate a lil bit on the minimum though

check out Sans Souci in sea cliff , Beautiful and they have an exellent reputation for food and service. Prices average 75-85 pp and include flower centerpieces and wedding cake.
