I was planning on doing these, but my hall frowns upon it, but its still allowed...for those that did...did you put them out RIGHT before the Reception or before the CH?
Our hall puts out the placecards where you could see them during CH and they dont want them lit that long?
I'm just wondering if this is do-able?
Maybe if I ask them to be lit and put out once the CH is over?

Re: Votive Place card holders..
Mine were set out in the cocktail hour area (something I didn't know they were going to do!) and they started to light them right away. I had to tell the waiter to stop, that they weren't supposed to be lit yet. They were to be lit right before the guests were to go up to the dining room. Guests starting taking them before they were lit though - they thought they were favors! So I had to have the waiter stand there and make sure nobody took any What a mess.....poor planning on my part I guess though.

This is exactly what I was afraid of.... Was it worth it in your opinion, would you have planned better and still done them, or just said forget it and done something else?

I think if I were you, I'd ask that they put them out in the area near CH & reception room before CH is over and lit them at that time....It might be a little more work for them but you are already giving them business and they should provide you with excellent customer service and this is one of the instances your Maitre'd can coordinate things for you...

I had them put out at the entrance to our reception room (not the room where we had the CH). People found their name and went directly to their table.

I was the first one to do them at Flowerfield. It worked out great, they were lit before my ceremony and shortly after people took them to their tables. If you use tea lights they can stay lit for a long time without getting too hot. I love them, and I am so glad DH made them. I say go for it!

Yes, it was worth it. They looked really pretty, but I should've clarified where I wanted them placed, not just assumed that they'd be in the dining room.....I just hadn't even thought of that.
