So my hall is now telling me that I can't have the votive placecards lit becuase it is a fire hazard. I am so upset. I was realy looking foward to them and I already bought all of hte supplies. One suggestion they had is to have regular placecards and then the votive ones will already be at the tables and lit so when peole walk into the room it will be glowing with the candles. I don't know... does anyone like this idea or have any suggestions for anything else? Help me please!!!!

I wanted to do votive placecards, but the guests would have had to walk down the flight of stairs with it (or take the elevator). I didn't want them to risk carrying it that way. So I did regular placecards and had my tables FILLED with votives. I had very low centerpieces intermixed with candles. On my video you just see a beautiful glow on all the tables! I think the votives on the tables will look pretty!

I never even told my hall that was what I was doing. I just brought them there the day before and they had to use them. I didn't care at that point.
I don't understand though, if it's a fire hazard, why can you have them on the tables but not out as placecards? Either way, they are lit and could be a fire hazard?

I believe it a fire hazard because of the 'moving' of a live flame. My dad is a fire inspector and he would never let me do this.
My mom actually set a table on fire at FIRE DEPARTMENT dinner!!! So funny...they got it out, of course.
I think that you should have the votives on the table - do a lot of them.

that's just kind of comical to me. For the amount of time it takes to pick it up and walk to a table and set it down. I don't know. That's just me

They say becuase if they are line up on a table, peopl will have to reach ove to select them and they are worried someones sleeve may get caught in a flame. I am not disagreeing with then about the hazard because I understnad their concern...I'm just trying to come up with a way to do them because I already bought the stuff.,
Do you think it's stupid to have them not lit and then ilght them at the table?

I know they sell glow sticks that you can use to get the same exact effect, someone on here used them for the same reason, because the hall did not want them to be moved with while lit.

I know you aren't arguing with them about it. I just personally didn't get it :)
I don't think it's stupid to have them not lit then light them at the table. I was going to do that, because I got 100 free matchbooks, so I thought I'd set them up next to the votive for people to light when they wanted. So I definitely don't think it's a bad idea!!!

Which do you think is better? Option one: Having them as placecards not lit, and when they get in the room the wiater will light them
Option 2: Having seperate place cards and when they get into the room they will be at the appropriate table and lit.
Please help me make this decision!!!

I like #2...or I could help you do something similar to what I did, which was a huge hit with my guests and the staff at JT. I had my placecards attached to vellum bags with a blue ribbon (and some glue gun) and filled the bags with Lindt truffles...not pricey and it was so cute!
If not, optioon #2 works fine...people at that point are in awe...they won't notice anything!
