hi girls - i had my heart set on votive placecards at the wedding - but when i met with my coordinator at the carlyle he tried to talk me out of it by saying people will not want to hold them at the cocktail hour so they will look at their table and leave them there and not take them. I had seen on the site that a girl put a sign to take them when the cocktail hour was over. did any of you have votive placecards and people didnt take the candle to their table?? also were they too hot to hold after sitting on the card table for an hour? those were his concerns.
thanks!

I have to agree with the BM on this one. I know that it looks gorgeous in pictures and everything, but when it comes time for your guests to grab the votives, there is going to be a long line, people are going to be grabbing at all different directions, and with flames, and clothes, and drinking, its just not a good combination... ( sorry FH is FDNY so Im a little more causious about this... But if you want to you an still do them just dont light them ( or take pictures with them lit and then blow them out

Mine were never lit. They were wrapped in Tulle and the tags that hung on them gave the seating assignment. This way they doubled as favors.

I used the sign... i think it worked pretty well, but then again, i dont remember much from the night... you can always put them out, then have them lighted once everyone takes their seat and the votives are already on the table and moved... looking back, i probably should have done that because i didnt even get a picture of how pretty they all looked lighter... but if i had gotten that picture, it probably would have been worth it!

Re: votive placecards
Ours were lit a few minutes before guests entered the room. They were displayed in the reception room rather than at the cocktail hour. No one left the votives behind.

Re: votive placecards
mine were lit 10 mins before cocktail hour ended. there was a little confusion as to what they should do with them, but i told a few people before hand what to do and they kind of guided them. the MD should help as well. very few people left them behind and i got compliments the whole nite! dont skip out on them, no matter how much they can be a pain, my guests loved them!

Can someone post a picture of votive placecards - I have no idea what they look like and couldn't find them online. Thanks!
