Question for those of you using or have used the votive placeholders... i have heard that the votive candles make the glass get hot. I thought about using tea lights but I am worried that they will burn out before the end of the reception! So which one?

votives...tealights only last for 4 hours, and you have to consider that they are going to be lit and on the table before the reception starts, so they will most likely go out.

Votives, definitely. If you put tea lights in a votive holder, the glass may actually get hotter than with a votive candle.

Votives....tealights don't last long at all and you don't want all your candles going out by the 3rd hour.

I voted for tea lights...I have seen it where the glass gets too hot also...although reading all the above makes me wonder now. Maybe do votives but turn them on a few minutes before the guests are to grab them?

I know that many of the people that have made them have used tealight, otherwise the flame is way too high. The glass also gets very hot. I believe that there are tealights that you can buy that are slow burning.

I went with the votives. I lit a few new tea lights the other night when we watched our video and they were out by the end. The video certainly wasn't as long as the reception.

Im using tea lights, the votives are too close size wise to the top of the glass, people will end up burning themselves. The tea lights can burn for 8 hours if you get the 8 hour kind.
Also, make sure you ask your hall..a lot of halls wont allow it, mine would but they did give me a hard time about it for a while.

FH made the point that most people will blow the flame out after picking them up so I tested them and they didn't get hot until 2 hours after I lit them so even if they stayed lit durning CH and the beginning of the reception that's enough. So Im sticking with the tea lights.
