Re: vows
I am *not* I'll be nervous and crying as it is - having to recite (and remember) vows that I've written would probably send me into an anxiety attack.

Re: vows
Part of me wants to and the other part isn't sure. FH want's to write our own. I'll have to think about it.

Re: vows
We aren't writing out own vows. We are doing the traditional ones.

Re: vows
I was helping a friend with her vows and I found it really useful to google love poems, friendship poems and marriage sayings. We created vows through using those as inspiration.
As far as writing something for him....I went to a friends wedding where they decided not to write their own vows and the bride wrote something for the groom anyway. He was so upset. He said he felt like an @ss bc he didn't do anything for her and felt stupid.

Re: vows
i think you both have to decide whether or not you want to write your vows or do the traditional one. if he's adamant about not writing vows, i don't think he'll appreciate you writing a vow secretly to be read during your ceremony. like the other person said, he'll feel like and a$$. if you want to write something special and meaningful, then do it and read it to him on your wedding night alone.

Agreed. FH doesn't want to write vows but I do. I was thinking of doing the same thing but then realized that it may make him feel bad so I decided against it. I'll be reading it to him privately.

Re: vows
I really want to write my own vows but I know it will be too emotional to recite in front of freinds/families.
So, what me and FH have decided to do is say the traditional vows in the ceremony. We will exchange cards the day of the wedding with our personal vows inside. This way it will be just between us.
Welcome to steal the idea if you want

thanks! that is really a good idea!!! this way even if he doesn`t come up with something at least it doesn`t look like i`m trying to show him up in front of our friends and fam!

I am such a geek - I also like the idea of saving the cards so we can reread what we wrote to each other. Like on our anniversary or whatever.

I agree. The traditional ones will be just fine with me...along with a BIG glass of wine beforehand

This is exactly why were not doing our own vows. Very well put!

Re: vows
You would think that as a teacher, planning a 'speech' and doing it in front of tons of people would be a breeze...NOT! First off, I cry at stranger's weddings....Second, unless FH wants a face filled with smudged makeup, a sniffling bride or a prolonged ceremony, we'll be using traditional vows lol

Re: vows
I'm not good with public speaking at all.. and i'm sure i'll be hysterically crying as well, so I don't think there's any way i'll be able to remember the vows I wrote, lol... FH doesn't want to write them either... the regular ones are fine with us! As long as I don't have to say that I'll obey him... and if I say that, then he has to say it too!
