W-T-F is wrong with people, cancelling 3 days before??

We have 6 cancelling so far for the reception ! I am so annoyed -- this is why I fled the country to get married!!

i expected cancellations, but not so close to the date. And now the BM is pissed at me for calling 3 times a day removing people and re-arranging seating and I don't blame him!

I totally know what you mean but sometimes cancelling can't be avoided. FI cancelled on Saturday morning for the Rhode Island wedding I attended on Saturday night.

I drove up with friends from work (in my car which was planned in advance). I was so pissed. Not only did I end up driving for over 3 hours but I also had to stay at a strange hotel in a place I had never visited before ALONE. None of the other wedding guests were at my hotel and my friends all picked different hotels. Actually 2 were at the same hotel but it looked like the Bates Motel and there was a resident of the hotel who truly looked like Norman Bates!!!!

He worked late all week long so he could take off for the wedding and it just did not work out. He came over at 9 a.m. on Saturday with no luggage and told me he could not go.

He does property management and had to help with setting up a new floor of one of the buildings they run. It was finally finished late on Sunday night after they work late all week and over the weekend. I couldn't really stay angry though since it was a $15K job and a family owned company.

I called the bride and she was fine with it since she had 11 extras anyway and needed the space. After all of this wedding reaserach, I told FI he should write her a check for the $200pp cost of his empty chair. However, I had already sent her a set of china from her Tiffanys registry with both our names.

What!! Yea I am kind of expecting that too, I had a no-show at my shower who I would put money on will also be a no-show at the reception.

That sucks. I got a few late cancellations too (one with a very pathetic non-excuse). Just try to forget about the annoyance... don't even let it color your day at all!

I just had a conversation with a co-worker about this. Her advice is to tell the BM a number slightly less than the rsvp's you received. Her number was 270 so she told them 255. Turns out there were 10 last minute cancellations or no shows. It was easy for them to sit an extra 5 'surprize' people day of. She called the day before telling them they came in from Italy (They really did) and she honestly didn't expect them. Yes, she had to pay for them day of but she didn't lose any money.
