Nope...DH & I work hard and we will get our house ON OUR own..be proud wacky..most people parents pay for them to get a house, or the DP...

Do it your self and be proud!

Im having problems to...but good thing I copied...

just want to offer another perspective....the grass may be greener on your side...don't envy too much:

DH was left a house in Spain when his father died...the house has caused major fights within his family (including a huge strife between him and his cousin who was like a sister) and yes we had our downpayment...but he would have traded all the money in for the chance to meet his father (he died 2 months before he was born)

I typed out a long-ass post in response and it took me to the dang site map! My response was a longwinded, yes I understand and feel the same way sometimes, but I also know that I will be able to have the things that I want, my way and without feeling indebted to anyone because I won't have to rely on handouts for the important things since FH and I bust our asses for what we want.

You and DH worked hard and saved and look at what the outcome will be.

We own land in FL and if we want to put 101 orange trees on it we can because its ours. All ours.

Jenn, it's happened to me before...but only when I type out these novella-esque responses to people's post. Maybe LIW is just trying to tell me I have a big mouth!

Wacky, sometimes I get so envious of people that I could just sh*t bricks and throw a tantrum. Especially when I'm feeling the strain with my loans and this wedding. But again, in the end, I will get what I want on my terms, with my money, and my final say on EVERYTHING.

Jen I know I dont want to sound like a bitter women because I truly am happy for those whose parents are able to help them. I acutally hope that one day I will be able to help my children and make things a bit easier for them.

jenn...I'm not going to give our downpayment money away...but I would trade it in to have DH's father around...its not something we are really happy about having...its sad and somber...

Erica I never said it was a bad thing...of course I'd rather have my mom around, when she passes her home is mine..what I am saying is some get money handed to them..nothing wrong with that either, but I am proud to be doing it on my own.

Dh and I both work/worked really hard...it just seems in this comment that if you don't do everything on your own then you are unable to do it on your own

FH parents and my parents actually offer to help - I'd rather not get anymore help.

Just because a parent does give money to their child doesnt mean that they wouldnt be able to do it on their own though.

My parents have paid for my tuition through college and law school - i complain sometimes because my parents view it as an exchange - they give the money and thus have a say over what I do. I am so utterly grateful to my parents for helping me through school. I cant say that i wouldnt have gone through college and law school though if they hadnt paid for my tuition - sure I would have been in hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt now - but i would still get the same education and would work just as hard-

I think it is great that a parent can help out their child. I would love to be able to pay for my child's education when time comes. I have drawn the line with school and refuse to accept any money for the wedding from our parents.

When it comes to buying a house - i wouldnt mind getting a mortgage from my parents but dont want my parents or FH just to give us the money.

To each their own - if a parent wants to give money to their child fabulous - if a parent cant give money that is fine too - the most important part is that the parents are their to share your life with.

When you have to deal with life hardships that only makes you a stronger person.

I have to agree with Erica here. Jenn what you said is a little harsh. Just because I didn't pay for school or my wedding or if my or Matts parents have given us anything we can use toward a house doesn't mean we couldn't do it on our own. You make it sound like someone who gets this kind of help is spoiled and doesn't work for a living.

I have a very good job and make a very good salary. While it may have taken us a lot longer to get the money together we still would have pulled it together. And I will be no less proud of Matt and myself the day we close on our new house.

Wacky you shouldn't be jealous. The grass can be greener on both sides. As Erica said she would like to have DH dad around and I would like to still have my mom. Even if those are not the circumstances just because I have the downpayment doesn't mean all our money troubles are gone. You will get there and it will be great!!!
