Since I am planning from MD, it is difficult to get to LI during the week. If FH and I got our marriage license the Monday before our Saturday wedding, would it be valid? I know in MD you have to wait 48 hours before using a marriage license and I was wondering if NY had a waiting period as well. Keeping my fingers crossed that there is not a longer waiting period in NY!

NYS has a 24 hour waiting period. And the licence is valid for 60 days.

Good question! I'd like to know the same thing. I was told we had to go get it 30 days before...is that true?

No, it's not true. You can get your licence any time in the 60 days prior to your wedding date up to the last 24 hours.

Picture identification, (current driver's license or current passport), social security number, fee- $25.00.
A certified copy of your birth certificate or Baptismal certificate.
Know mother's first name and father's full name plus countries of birth.
If not first marriage, bring certified copy of final divorce decree with date granted.
If ended in death, certified copy of death certificate.
Under 18 years of age, need parent consent.
Between 18 and 21 years of age, need birth certificate plus photo identification.
There is a 24 hour waiting period, and the license is good for 60 days.

Ok, this is a dumb question maybe, but where do you go to actually do this? Not being in NY, I haven't a clue! My wedding is going to be in Commack. Also, are there certain days/times when you can/can't go (the only thing I was pretty certain of was that it can't be a weekend). We were going to shoot for Friday, June 13 (how scary!). Do you know if you need to make an appointment? Any information would be greatly appreciated!Thanks!!
go to any town hall...we went to the hempstead one and were wandering around aimlessly...people came up to us asking if we needed a marriage license...they say they can spot the couples who don't know where they are going...
also don't forget you both must go...

Thanks. Ok, dumb question #2...how does one find a town hall in my area (Commack) and see when they are open, etc? Is there a website I can check...?

Here is the Town Hall info for Huntington, which Commack may be a part of:

You can call them and see if you can get your license there.
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to though, we got married in the Town of Hempstead, and we got our license from the Town of Babylon.
