I need a little advice. I'm considering walking down the aisle alone. You see my mom was a single parent and she wants to walk me down the aisle but truth be told I really don't want her to, its nothing personal but she feels she has the right to and she feels strongly about it. I haven't broken the news yet but I will soon. What do you ladies think?

Re: walking down the aisle
I have def seen people walk down the aisle alone. But the whole point of someone walking you down the aisle is to give you away. Is there anyone else in your life that you think should have that honor? Are you and your mother not close?
My mother is also a single mother but my little brother took on the man of the house roll' since we were little so I am having him walk me down the aisle.

I am having my mother walk me down the aisle. My advise to you is that although we as brides really cant worry of whose feelings we may hurt. You might just want to rethink your decision before telling her. Your mom was a single parent who raised you and these are the little moments that she has waited for. Not only because it is her daughter's wedding day but it is also her day of recognition in some sense. Just my opinion.

I'm close to my mom. I just rather walk down the aisle alone. I guess I always pictured myself walking down the aisle alone my dad is alive and well but we're not close, he's not even invited but that's another story.

I suppose you're right. I'm back in forth with this decision. I'll think about it a little more before I make the decision.

What about if you walk down the aisle by yourself but your mom meets you at the end and presents you to FH? I had my dad walk me down and my mom and dad give me away.

Re: walking down the aisle
your mom is going to be on cloud 9 all day regardless if she doesnt get to walk you down the aisle.. Maybe you can break it to her gently? its your day and she can still be the proud mom

ITA if you werent close or had a bad relationship that is one thing, but if you just prefer to walk alone I would def reconsider....

Oh Mothers...
My parents are divorced, but I'm close with both... and really a daddy's girl.
Not only is my mom argueing that SHE should walk me down the aisle, she also wants a solo mother daughter dance.
That's where I'm drawing the line. from the first dance, to the father/daughter, to the mother/son... my guests would be boared to tears if they had to sit quietly and watch another dance!!
so that's where i'm drawing the line.
you just need to find a good way to comprimise, so she doesn't hold it over your head for ever!!!

Re: walking down the aisle
lately, in my country (Philippines), what brides do is that they walk alone and meet the parents half-way down the aisle and then they walk together to the end. It has a lot of impact not just 2 the groom but to the parents as well who sees their li'l girl as a radiant bride!
Your videog/photog will also get amazing shots this way!

I did it because I felt it was the right thing to do. I always wanted my dad to walk my down the aisle but my mom felt left out. So I had them both at the end of the aisle to give me away. Although my mom cried when I asked her to do that for me cause she said 'you only give away things you don't like'. Oh mom!

I plan on walking down the aisle alone also. I never had a great relationship with my dad and honestly whenever i pictured my wedding, i saw me walking down by myself.
I think plenty of girls have done it. To me, it signifies your independence....and really, how traditional are our weddings anyway?

I agree with this. My dad is alive but also not in the picture, My mom, actually hurt that my dad is not walking me down the aisle was initially reluctant, but I feel like it is her place.
I think it's really an honor for her and i don't think you should take it away from her IMO. it's a big, once in a lifetime day for her too.
How about this? Sometimes I've seen brides get walked halfway down the aisle by a parent, or walk halfway by themselves and meet the parent halfway. It shows that the parent was there for the, but also independence. Maybe you can have your cake and eat it too.

Re: walking down the aisle
If my father wasn't here, I would have either my mom walk me down or both my brothers. I wouldn't walk alone

You have a point because there's nothing traditional about my wedding. I mean me and my fh are doing our photoshoots before the wedding so he'll see me before the wedding.
