Wallpaper removal

Anyone know anyone who takes it down and what it would cost to pay someone to do this? Our new house has it in EVERY room and I am dreading the mess and the amount of time this is going to take!!!!

Re: Wallpaper removal

I don't know anyone but I know its expensive. My MIL hired us a couple of cheap general laborers that she had used before as a house warming gift! They didn't speak English but they knew how to take down wallpaper- I learned a lot from watching them. If you decide to take down yourself- go to Home Depot and get the paper tiger and some Dif. You score the wall with the paper tiger- it has little teeth that puncture through the wallpaper. You then spray the Dif on and let it sit- then you take off the wallapaper and the glue! The laborers made it look so easy but I'm sure it would take anyone else much longer!

I know most wallpaper installers (is that what they're called?) will remove wallpaper but it can get very pricey. Good luck- I know the 'that yucky wallpaper is the first thing to come down' feeling all too well!

You should do a search because I think this topic was discussed recently (within the past month).

Ugh Jen, I feel soooo sorry for you to have this in EVERY room I had to take a border down and that was just pure he!! as it was and I swore I'd never put a border or wallpaper up. I'd recommend getting a steamer from HD or something to that effect because I used that spray on, Dif and it was easier but definitely not the easiest chore to do. If this is in every room, I think I'd bite the bullet and pay for someone to do it. Believe me, it is tedious, difficult work!!

I heard white vinigar and water work better than Dif. I havent tried it myself.

We had wallpaper all over our house. (I still have more to take down) I used downey(sp) fabric softener and warm water. It works really well.

Re: Wallpaper removal

Definitely rent a steamer. We had 2 layers of paper in our kitchen and 1/2 bath. I did the kitchen with DIF and vinegar and water, and it was hell.
For the bathroom we broke down and rented the steamer. Holy cow! What a difference. It went way faster, and the walls were less damaged because it came off easier.
I wasn't too messy either with the steamer. I bunched towels around the floor along the walls to get any drips, and kept a garbage pail close by. The pieces came off in bigger sections, so there were less shreds of paper around.

Re: Wallpaper removal

My mom just did it for me in our new apt. She scored with the paper tiger thing, then Dif, peeled off paper, then Dif again to clean off the glue. This paper was old and stuck on pretty bad and she did the whole room with my DH in about 2 hrs.
