Wanna meet our new fur baby???

DH got me a 10 week old Shiba Inu for our 1 year anniversary (the pedigree papers count as 'paper', right???? )

So here he is - Loki, our new fur baby!! (in the second pic, you can see how little he is next to our pug, Fasinus)

He is soooo cute. I have a Shiba Inu also! They are great. Finally someone else owns one. When people ask us what kind of dog we have they are like what? We have never heard of that. I would love to get another one but my DH is not going for it. One thing about Shiba's is they shed shed shed shed!

Thank you!

diamondgirlie - they get about as big as a spaniel, usually 16-20 lbs

Irishbride - I am noticing the shedding...but we are used to the pug shedding, which is not only alot of hair, but thick, so it is not too bad for me. I def. would not reccomend a Shiba to someone who does not want to vaccum once a month

I notice too, that people do not knwo about Shiba's..but when they see it they think it is something else!

How long did it take you to train your Shiba?

Re: Wanna meet our new fur baby???

We actually adopted her when she was a year old. Another bride on LIW found her. They are very very smart. It didn't take us long to train her. We had some major accidents on our carpets. I would have to say she is not fully house trained yet but if we keep her on schedule she is usually fine. The sit, down, etc commands she got right away. They need need a lot of human contact. They can be very skittish. Sandy is very jumpy and will hide from strangers. We are not sure of her back ground but we think she may have been mistreated. I don't know where you live but maybe we could have a Shiba GTG when your little guy is a little older. Sandy loves other dogs.

She is a little bigger than the 'normal size' shibas from what I cant tell. She is about 25 lbs. She never barks. She is so quite that you would never know she was around.

He is actually paper training pretty quickly...he whines when he has to go & we out him near the cage, then he lets himself in & does his business...he has had a couple of accidents, but nothing major, just missing the paper by a smidge.

I would love a GTG..I live in Amity Harbor (for now...we are looking for a new home). From what I can tell, Loki is OK with other dogs...he is a puppy, so he is playful. The only thing I am worried about is that the brred standard warns about raising a child with an adult Shiba, but I think if you raise the dog around kids & the kids to respect a dog, that should be ok.....heck, I was raised with a pit/dobie/collie mix....and I am still here

That pup is GORGEOUS!!!!!!

I so want another puppy, but if I do give in and get it, I want a smaller dog. But, I don't think that will happen till another few years.

Re: Wanna meet our new fur baby???

We have tenants who have a little boy who is 18 months old. She loves him. She is really good with him and I think he knows to be gentle with her coz she is a big chicken. I was always raised to never trust a dog 100% no matter how good they are.
