Wanted: Some Mommy's thoughts on this...

Wanted: Some Mommy's thoughts on this...

Last night around 4:00 a.m., Amber's Angel Care monitor went off. At first the 10 second delay beeped, so I immediately sat up and held my breath. Then the full blown monitor went off. I started to shake her awake (not hard but I was a little panicked) and called her name loudly! She woke up and started crying. Now I know she's been a little congested due to a cold being spread around at home, but do babies sometimes just stop breathing?? I'm so SIDS phobic it's not even funny (I had a friend whose baby passed due to SID's). I literally freaked out. My husband thinks the monitor malfunctioned but I tested it it this morning and it was fine. He keeps pressuring me to move her into her own room and I just don't feel comfortable with that, especially after last night. Has anyone ever had a false reading from the monitors or had experience with hthe Angel Care monitors? I called the doctor because I want her tested for Apnea (my father and brother have it). I'm waiting to hear back from them. I'm soo scared

First of all
I think you needed them.. second of all there could have been some interference with the monitor... I am also very SIDS phopic as well.. there has not been a night yet that I have not woken up to see if jillian is breathing....I would have her check but also if she is conjested try to get a humidifier in the room it will help. I also have a video Monitor which picks up every little noise she makes...

GOOD LUCK

The monitor can also go off if the baby moves off of the underneath pad. After a scare I would not move the baby...but maybe in a few days you will feel better.

I'd have Amber checked out too. How scary. Keep us posted on what the dr. says. I worry a lot too. I am always checking Emily to make sure she is breathing. What a frightening thing to happen.

I spoke with the doctor and she did say that maybe Amber 'tricked' the monitor by rolling off of it directly or something like that. She said she was too old to utilize it. I feel a little better because she said statistically the chances are very rare of SIDS occurring after six months old (even though it does happen). I'm still not ready to move her into her own room just yet.

Thanks everyone!

The other night we used the monitor for the first time with Jeremy. I dont know if he wasnt breathing enough or what the deal was with it but the alarm went off. DH freaked out because he didnt know that if the alarm goes off its because the pad isnt detecting movement. As soon as the alarm went off the ticking started again. Holy Crap, thank GOD for that monitor, even if it was a false alarm!

I agree! I highly recommend the Angel Care Monitor. I'm glad Jeremy is doing well. How Emma doing with the baby in the house?

I have a question. I registered for a video monitor and see that it got mixed reviews. The Angelcare monitor got great reviews. Now for my dumb question. The receivers allow you to hear the baby also right, not just the alarm? Should I forget the video monitor?

Yes, you can 'hear' them as well as have the sensitvity alarm for the breathing. I would reigister for both, why not? The video monitor is great if you have to go outside for a few minutes (I know a friend did this when she had to take her little guy to the bustop (which was a house over from theirs) and she didn't want to bring the baby outside for the two minutes to wait for the bus in the pouring rain. She had her video monitor and she was good to go.
