Wanted to share this with you all - a bit long, but worth it!
THE INVITATION
It doesn’t interest me to know what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your hearts longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see beauty, even when it’s not pretty, everyday, and if you can source your own life from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, YES!!
I doesn’t interest me where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.
It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me where or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you like the company you keep in the empty moments.

Reading it again, you have to sort of have this spiritual connection with someone I think to really understand it... Not everyone is connected in that way with someone, but it was always a focus of mine to have this type of understanding - plus, we know we are comitted to a path that is full of risk and not focused on 'things'....
I think there are some of you out there!!!

I'm trying. I really am. I've read it a few times, but some of it is really deep. But I agree that life & love is about the more meaningful things in life.

If you like it and it works for the two of you, you should include it somehow in your day.
For me... It's ok. It's comes off a little hard, a little much. It's not for me and my FH. I don't think it's about having a spiritual connection with someone. The Invitation is almost issuing a challenge for people to be who they are without the gloss and smoke that mask who we are. I think the more relevant question is whether you have seen beyond the gloss and smoke and are able to discern who that person is, deep deep down. Can you answer those questions because you know the answers? Or can you answer those questions because you're only seeing what you want to see... because you hope you're right?

ETA: i wasn't asking those last 2 questions, I'm offering them as part of my analysis...

OK.. my 2 cents.
I really like it. It's different. Maybe a bit long but it's not the standard that everybody uses.

curious, I googled. it. it's by Oriah, a women who studied with Native Americans. it's about yourself and finding the deeper meaning of life within yourself.

Oh.... for invitations? I did not pay attention. Sorry!
Honestly, I would use more like a poem being read but not for invitations.

No - its called the Invitation because you are inviting someone into this journey with you - I was thinking of just hading it out printed on pretty paper at the wedding instead of a program....
