I've been lurking these last few weeks but haven't been posting much. Last time I was here I asked you all for your thoughts and prayers so I wanted to update you on what was going on.
It turns out that there's a history of genetic abnormalities on DH's side of the family. Although he's unaffected, he's a carrier for a gene which would have a 50/50 chance of being passed on to our child. And a 25% chance that that gene could cause multiple abnormalities.
All this came to light at my 8 week ultrasound and needless to say, it put a damper on what otherwise would be a very happy event.
I had to wait until I was 15 weeks to have an amnio done to rule out that this gene had passed on.
We had talked it over, DH and I, and in the event that this child received the gene in the unbalanced form, we both decided that we would terminate the pregnancy.
(note: this isn't meant to open up any debate regarding pro life/choice, I'm merely sharing what we would have done and I'd appreciate that no judgement be passed on that matter)
So, for the sake of keeping myself sane, I spend most of my first tri, trying not to get too involved with what was happening inside of me, in the event that the worst would happen. It's been a very emotianal and trying 10 weeks. The waiting has been hell. And it's been even harder trying not to look at nurseries and dream of my future child.
But I'm back to fill you all in because I got my amnio results yesterday and (THANK GOD) all is well! The child didn't even inherit the gene and HE'S

100% healthy as far as they can tell.
So I just wanted to stop in and say thanks for the thoughts and prayers and especially to those of you who took the time to e-mail me to check in on my progress.
Chances are you'll be seeing a lot more of me now that I can embrace the joy of this life that's inside me. I'm breathing a lot easier, walking a lot ligher and very happily planning on all things baby
