Warning

Warning

Just a warning for everyone. We had a painter doing some painting and molding in our house. Last week he had a very bad accident with the electric saw when I was out. It actually cut off his hand and part of his arm. They were able to reattach it but he is still looking at 8 months of therapy and they are still uncertain whether he will regain use of his hand.

So my warning is twofold:

1. Do not hire uninsured workman in the house. Even though the accident was caused by his negligence, if they don't have insurance they can sue your homeowner's policy.

2. Do not disable safety guards on tools. They are there for a reason. The painter taped the safety guard up, thereby disabling it. If it did not do this, he would have never amputated it.

Re: Warning

Wow.... Good warning. A good reminder that it's better to pay for the professional for some jobs incase accidents like that happen.

OMG! I'm glad he turned out to be alright, but I'm sure it was quite scary and painful for him! Hopefully he learned his lesson about safety!

WOW!!

I work in insurance.....always always always require a certificate of insurance (and include you as an additional insured if at all possible)....We issue them regularly, and if they say they cannot get one, then you do not want to hire them. A cert of Insurance is a very common request.

Sorry you had to have this happen to you.
