Warning-alteration caps

Warning-alteration caps

As some of you may remember, my bridal boutique closed down and the manufacturer shipped the dress to a DC store. I went back to the DC store, they pinned it and told me it would be $500. I took the dress back and took it elsewhere. I explained the whole $500 thing and they said, 'We don't do alteration caps but there is no way we would ever charge that much.' They then gave me examples of wedding gowns that they had to pretty much do all over again that cost around $150, so it wouldn't be bad at all since I just needed a hem and bustle. So, I thought great! Went in for 2 fittings, picked up my dress today, they say they didn't charge me for pressing of the gown......$300! I didn't follow anyone's advice and went with someone who was convenient (across the street) and got ROYALLY scre#$%. So, please, please, please no matter how nice the people are, whatever the reputation, never go to a place until they tell you either an alteration cap or how much it is going to be. Too many places say 'they just don't know.' Then go to someone that 'does know.' With only 10 days until the wedding, the dress already done, I had no choice but to suck it up. Don't make the same mistake I did

That is EXACTLY why I chose not to purchase my dress from that store. I know exactly which store you are talking about.
