Okay, I went searching for a dress about 3 weeks ago and fell completely in love with a gown I found at Bridal Couture in Manhasset. The service there was unbelievable as well. I was told my gown is 'custom made' from Italy. They would not give me a style # or designer name. I had also heard MANY MANY horror stories from friends about this store. But, since the consultant I dealt with was so helpful, I didn't care if they gave me more info on the dress or not. HOWEVER, since the gown was expensive, I did take the comments of friends in consideration and DID NOT make a purchase yet. Last week, I found a dress that looked EXACTLY like the one in Bridal Couture in Brides magazine. So yesterday when I was on another search for a similar gown, I decided to go to Bridal Couture just to see if I still loved the original dress and I do! This time I studied the label (which Bridal Couture said is specially coded) and noticed the EXACT same number as the gown I found in the magazine. Of course the designers initials were missing to throw the purchaser off. Bridal Couture lied to me the VERY FIRST day I arrived. I found the dress at another bridal salon and am going for a fitting next week! Good luck to you all and be careful of where you go!

You would NEVER buy a car not knowing which company made it, why would you buy a gown not knowing which designer made it. You made the right choice.
SugarPlums also rips tags out and 'pretends' that ONLy they can get that dress.

That's beautiful!!! Congrats!!
I searched everywhere for that gown. I combed every website I could get my hands on. I wanted it so much, and I really wanted to find it at another store and see if I could get it cheaper. I wanted it so much. Then I was flipping through Bride's Magazine and found the gown I wound up getting...I just said close enough, and ordered it as soon as I tried it on!

You should report the stores to the Federal Trade Commission. You can visit their site at www.ftc.gov They have a publication on the site called Wedding Gown Labels: Unveiling the Requirements.
Part of this publications says: Tag Omission, Removal and Substitution
A wedding gown must have all the required labeling information when it leaves the manufacturer.
Under the Textile Act, it is illegal to remove a label containing manufacturer, fiber content or country-of-origin information without substituting another label with the required information. For example, a retailer who wants to remove a label identifying the manufacturer, must substitute it with a label that lists the shop's own name or RN, or the name or RN of someone else in the gown distribution chain. In addition, the substituted label must contain all the information that is required on the original label. All substitute labels must be properly attached to the gown -- either sewn in or on a conspicuously placed hang-tag. Finally, a retailer must not remove the sewn-in care instructions.
I have not had any dealings with any of the stores mentioned but since I will be looking for a gown soon I appreciate the heads up about shops like these.

Well ... I ordered my gown from them, but it had the tag with the name of the designer, and it was $100 cheaper than the suggested price from the manufacturer ... but of course I am not getting a four digit gown. I can't complain about the attention, my attendant was very nice, and still is ... let's see what happens when my gown arrives, it should be around Christmas.
good luck!

Based on the price point, it could be either Candice Solomon (my first guess) or Michelle Roth.

Re: WARNING ON BRIDAL COUTURE!! (long)
OH yes Mistyeyed!
But of course I am not using a very expensive designer. I am wearing one of the bridal gowns of Watters and Watters and most of them are under four digits. In Bridal Couture, it was only $40 more money than ordering it from RK Bridals ... and it saved me to go to the city for the fitting ... so I decided to go for it. I am going for something unusual ... we wanted a less formal wedding attire, so FH is wearing a Western-Hindu wedding suit (it is beautiful!) and I am wearing this silverish gown from Watters and Watters, with almost no trail and very nice ... at least I love it!
here it is how it looks ... I got glamma.com to make a greish veil for it ... I am looking forward to my fittings which by the way is going to be around $65.
Miro127 - I was gonna say the same thing Please wait until after out wedding to report them! My 2nd fitting is Tuesday!
I reported a shop when I was looking and withing a month the store closed...I know it had nothing to do with my reoprt but I couldn't help but feel guilty when I heard all the girls sooo upset about not having gowns!

Gosh! I wouldn't dream of reporting them since I have not had any dealings with them. I just wanted to pass on the available information if you had it in mind to complain about them. I guess passing along info is just the librarian in me
P.S. the gowns featured on this tread are absolutely gorgeous!

Elena, your gown is beautiful!
I won't be reporting them either...no sense. I didn't get my gown there and hopefully, all of the brides on this post will have positive experiences. My only hope would be that someone at Bridal Couture sees this, or any of the other posts here and on the Knot and Wedding Channel, and they eventually change their tune and lousy business practices.
And, now that I've had a chance to look at the gowns on the Knot, I think you could be right, that could very well be a Candice Solomon gown. I have never seen more exquisite tulle skirt gowns. Amazing! And the beading on the one I tried was absoultely amazing. But, I am much happier with the my Eve, it's like walking on a cloud!

This could be an Eve of Milady dress. Looks close to their style.

Re: WARNING ON BRIDAL COUTURE!! (long)
It's not an Eve....it is in fact a Candice Solomon! We have a winner!
And FYI, Bridal Couture is NOT an authorized dealer of Candice Solomon gowns. So add that to their roster of crappy things about the place. Makes me wonder how they even get the gowns!!
The gown I ended up buying ( I posted it below the other gown) is an Eve. I love it! :-)

Re: WARNING ON BRIDAL COUTURE!! (long)
Wow.... see another gown they probably claimed to have been 'custom made' for their store ONLY and bam we have another REAL DESIGNER! They really have nerve! You're right! How exactly do they get their gowns?!

Re: WARNING ON BRIDAL COUTURE!! (long)
Another story on how they sell dresses they're not authorized to sell.... My coworker got married in August and ordered her BM dresses from Bridal Couture in January. She ordered a Dessy dress for all 8 of her girls. She still hadn't received the dresses 2 weeks prior to her wedding so she called Dessy directly. Apparently, they're not authorized to sell Dessy gowns and were ordering them through another salon. My coworker got her dresses directly from Dessy. Pretty hideous.

Re: WARNING ON BRIDAL COUTURE!! (long)
This is insane. How is this place still open?
And I thought I should mention, the website where I got the picture of that gown from...www.bridalcouturemanhasset.com.....is no longer up and running.
Hmmmmm......

Re: WARNING ON BRIDAL COUTURE!! (long)
i have to jump in here in bridal couture's defense .... i am getting my dress AND bridesmaid dresses from there and so far have had a positive experience. my saleslady is wonderful and i trust her very much. yes, they definitely do some things that arent exactly 'kosher' but so do a lot of other places. the place has been around for MANY years in an area (manhasset) that values quality merchandise. also, websites go up and down all the time for maintenance - really no need for the alarm there! i just felt someone needed to jump in here. no, bridal couture is NOT prefect, but they're not exactly the monsters some people make them out to be.
