Was I being too critical????

Original post by nrvbrd

I am the first to admit I am the most critical person and I am so trying to change that.

Well Dh and I went to a friend's house for dinner. It was actually his best friend and the friend's girlfriend.

They prepared dinner for us and we had a nice evening. Well they put out the salad to start along with the salad plates. They only had one type of dressing- french which I really do not like. So I did not eat salad. They asked me why I was not eating and I politely told them that I do not like french. They aplogized and said that was all they had- so I said no problem.

Of course I was thinking to myself why would you only have one type of dressing instead of a variety to give people options. My friend said I was mean and critical and I should be grateful to be invited- which I am. I guess I am the type of person that likes to go above and beyond for my guests- always covering bases.

Thoughts????

I usually have a variety of dressings. Not a huge variety but will have at least 2 or 3 to choose from.

As far as not eating the salad, I probably would have just said I didn't want salad rather than say I don't like french.

I make my own dressing and always have O&V. We have not had a lot of people over but , this is a good point. For future reference I will ask people what they prefer.

First, I just want to say, I love reading your posts.

I would have a bunch of dressings to choose from too or I would have a dressing on there already such as ceaser, balsamic vinegarette, etc. I dont like French either....lol. I always make sure I have too much rather than not enough.

I don't think that you were critical. I am nervous about this all the time that is why as far as salad dressings go my fridge looks like a supermarket.

Also, I have learned which my friends like over the years so I always keep a small bottle of that in my fridge

All I have to say is your friend was wrong. That is not rude at all. The least your friend could have done was throw Italian, Blue Cheese, and Ceaser in the mix. This was she would have covers most if not all of the bases. I think you are absolutely right to not force yourself to have something you don't like. I don't think your host took it badly at all.

To be honest, I would have just said I don't like salad or I had salad already today-along those lines. To say you don't like the dressing they had could only make them feel bad so I would make another excuse. But I agree with you that you should have more choices for your guests.
