WAS IT TOO MUCH TIME??

Fh and I are waiting for the rest of the rsvp's to come back..we don't want to go over the mimium and don't want to be under either!! All the no's we would like to send out more invites!

My wedding is September 12th and we sent out the invites mid June with an rsvp date of August 15th! We haven't got back a good handful yet!! Onlly about 30 came back!!!!! FH and I are thinking we gave them too much time and should of sent them out in July with an rsvp of mid August. People probably got them and tossed it to the side thinking 'I have to August 15th!'..

What do you all think?

I think you're probably right, ppl ALWAYS wait until the last minute to send them back. There isn't really anything you can do about that now. I'm still getting some in and my RSVP date was July 19th!

I agree, I think if you send them out too early people either forget about them or think they have plenty of time and dont send them back.

I agree, also keep in mind many people are either on vacation or just being occupied with the summer unfortunately. It stinks because in general people have issues getting the RSVP's back in time I think the summer may contribute to it as well.

no you didn't give them too much time. Generally the guests get 6 weeks so you sound right on target. Don't blame yourself that your guests can't get their RSVPs in on time!

Re: WAS IT TOO MUCH TIME??

general etiquette for invitation suggests mailing them 6 - 8 weeks before the wedding date (not the RSVP date).

many brides get this confused and think they should mail 6 - 8 weeks before the RSVP date, and the RSVP date should be 6 - 8 weeks before the wedding ... leading them to mail 12 - 16 weeks before the wedding.

so yes, i think you may be right ... your guests had sooo much time to put the RSVPs in the mail that it wasn't on the forefront of their minds ... there was no feeling of 'pressure' to respond quickly ...

but regardless of what anyone does, most people are just inconsiderate when it comes to responding. many people wait until the last minute, and a lot of guests don't even mail them until the due date or a day or two after the date.

UGH....I knew it!!!! I wish I could go back and do it over!!!!!

I just can't wait to make these phone calls! I'm aggravated with it that I am telling them I need to know right now and that I am going to my RH the next day for menus and need a final head count. I don't think it's wrong of me since they have had my invite in their possession for 2 months!!!!!

your RSVP date hasn't even come yet ... i would wait until a couple of days after the RSVP date to start making phone calls.

we got many RSVPs in those days.

Re: WAS IT TOO MUCH TIME??

We are having the same issue. We sent it out earlier than normal because FH and I worked together and we never admitted to anyone that we were dating let alone getting married. So we shocked the h e l l out of everyone but letting them know via the invitation. We also needed to let everyone know before the shower invites went out. It has been over a week since we received a response and many have not been received. We have until the 20th of Aug though.

honestly, it seems like no matter what you do- too much time, too little, people still dont worry about responding on time- so I wouldnt worry.

Our RSVP date is Friday and I sent a friendly reminder email to our friends/family this morning- and wrote this-

Hello-

I hope you received our wedding invitation- if you didnt, please let me know. Just a friendly reminder, I have not received your RSVP and the due date is Friday- AUGUST 1st- if you could please stick it in the mail this week, I would really appreciate it :)

Thanks,
MBP

out of the 30 I sent, half have responded- hth

well although you dont want them to know the cutoff date is 10 days before the wedding, unfortunately most guests do know that for a wedding you normally dont give your guest count until 2 weeks-1 week before the wedding. And yes many times i guess guests who receive an invite for a wedding that is months away, they figure they have enough time. They'll put away the invite and i guess forget about it, not until closer to the wedding date do they remember that they have to send it in.

I guess when sending it real early you will have to wait for rsvp's to slowly come in.

I sent mine out about 6 weeks before the wedding, i wanted to send it earlier but had problems with the invitation place and ended up making them myself. I was worried at first with having less time than i see others on here have, but we got rsvps in so quickly and so many right after. The first week i had about 100 rsvps back and the 2nd week we had about 200. I guess most ppl sent them out right away since our wedding was not that far away. We still did have some who rsvp'd late, but not a huge amount.
