Was SPAMalot worth a 7 month wait and over $200!?!

In a word... NO

Hank Azaria is amazing and it did pick up in the 2nd act, but I thought ti was too self referential, they drew out and killed their own jokes, and it wasn't funny in it's own context. The only people who really seemed to lvoeit were big fans of the movie, who were glad to see their favorite bits on stage. Even my FH who is a huge Monty Pythin fan didn't realy like it. I used to love flying circus when I was a kid, and this to me wasn't as funny...
Hank Azaria did a great **** Cheney bit though..it was soooo funny..

He went 'we are no longer the knights who say ni, we are the knights who say eke ke....etc...it's your turn to shoot mr vice president' and then he shot patsy with his staff and kept offering it to king arthur to take a shot....it was so funny....maybe you had to be there...

Anyway, that's my mini-review...

after that I am definitely making FH see RENT with me

I have heard so many mixed things about Spamalot. How was Lauren Kennedy as the Lady of the Lake?

You should make your FH see Sweeny Todd with you. It is truely the best musical theatre experience that DH and I have ever had. To see a director that had a vision and followed it through from beginning to end is unheard of in current musical theatre, but Sweeny does just that.

ETA: I love the picture of you two in your avatar!!!!

we just saw wicked saturday and it was awesome! i know it's really hyped up, but rightfully so. eden espinosa who played elphaba has an outstanding voice and the storyline is really touching and at times funny. check it out!

To answer several questions. I've seen the movies, liked the movies, didn't think the play was as funny, and I also don't think that a Broadway musical should require that you watch a movie first to 'get' it. It should be whole and complete on its own. It just seemed like it was like 'we're gonna do the jokes from the movie onstage now..isn't that cool?'

The lady of the lake was awesome. what a voice on her! She amazed me.

I ahve been wanting to see Sweeney Todd since it was first announced. Wasn't it originally a limited engagement? I actually want to see that much more than I want to see RENT for a 5th time, but FH REALLY doens't want to see RENT, so that would be an appropriate torture mechanism to 'get him back' for making me sit through Spamalot, which technically he ddn't make me sit throguh at all, since i bought him the tickets as a gift.

My short list of musiclas I want to see is:

Sweeney Todd
Avenue Q

I'm hinting heavily at both, since my birthday is coming up

Jenn, I'm sorry to hear you and Doug didn't enjoy the show! Brad and I are going to see it on 3/5 for his b-day. We are seeing Sweeney Todd and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels next week, so I'll give you my reviews!

We saw spamalot last year opening week and were kinda dissapointed, but my parents saw it last july and they loved it. Apparently, they try to add topical jokes into the show so it is always slightly different. Well for ours they had a song in there making fun of jewish people and praising arabs. It has been taken out since we saw the show, and was replaced by what is supposed to be a rather funny song according to my parents. I know it is different since our programs did not match.
