Washington DC?

John and I are thinking of taking a trip to go site seeing etc. What is the best way to do this? Id rather fly 1 hour on jet blue then drive. Would we have to rent a car down there or are there shuttles? Where is a really nice but central located hotel? and any restaurant suggestions?

Oh also John was hoping to catch a capitals/rangers game. is there stadium anywhere near that?
thanks girls

We stayed at a hotel in Va that had a metro stop right under it. It was great. We took the subway every where we went- you do not need to rent a car.

Dh and I go to DC all the time but we drive. typically leave at 4 a.m. and get there at 8:30-9, if you leave later then that it takes six hours to drive. We stay in a central location with in walking distance to attractions and china town (where all the good/fun restaurants are). We are not fancy high end restaurant people but typically eat at Fado Irish Pub on 17th and CapitalQ, a really tiny noodle shop i think on 19th street that makes the noodles in front of you. Really cute shops around there. We stay at
Hamilton Crowne Plaza Hotel? because of location, its nice and tad bit less pricier then the hotels near the white house.

I can never imagine driving around the city since it is so walkable (not in shoes but sneakers, tricky pavement at times) also there are TONS of homeless but they don't bother you if you don't bother them but don't be alarmed. DO get a car if you plan on going to Baltimore which is great. Smithsonian's are all free admission, DO NOT go to the aquarium in DC complete waste of money drive to Baltimore.

I live right outside D.C now so I cannot help you with hotels. Flying is great b/c its fast but it can be expensive. I recommend looking into Vamoose. its a bus company that is only $25 a way and its filled with yuppies. it lets you off in Arlington (near a metro stop) so it attracts young people. Also there is Mega bus but i have never tried that one. I had a great experience on Vamoose. oh it goes right to penn station.

The bolt bus from downtown NYC is great. FH and I were there this weekend. We stayed at the Omni Shoreham, right on the red line of the train system. It was BEYOND amazing and so easy to get to everywhere.

if you want to 'tour' i suggest looking into old town trolley tours. i can help with some other stuff too... ive gone there alot. lol FM me.

FH and I went to DC this summer. We stood only one night but we stayed at the Washington Plaza. It was nice from the outside but the rooms were very plain. It was nicely located in what is considered the business district...we were in walking distance to the White House. We decided to drive down there and it wasn't bad at all. It was nice to see the different states we passed.

We booked a half day tour and got to see most of the major attractions. Im saw the stadium not too far from where we were at. Since we had the car we were able to drive to the museums the following day and see other places at night.

There were a few bums and drunk people roaming the streets at night but nothing you wouldn't see here in NY. Overall we had a good time and we plan on going there again another time.
