OMG!! This is where FH lived before I dragged him to Long Island!!! I wish he was home right now I would make him list things out for you... but I'll do my best!!!
Hmmm... ok... so you of course have to tour the monuments during the day... They are pretty cool at night too. They recently opened the Newseum... Which as is turns out is a museum for news not a 'new' museum. FH still makes fun of me to this day about it... We were 3 floors in and I busted out with 'OHHHHH, I get it, It's a NEWSeum!!!' I'm normally not that slow - HAHA!) but it focuses on all modern day events mostly 20th century news... so it was pretty interesting. What else... there is this place called The Palace of Wonders... it's in the NE quadrant (a liiiiiitle shady) but they have burlesque shows and are pretty entertaining. (I saw one where the girl was dressed as the maid from the Jetsons!!!) The National Zoo is a pretty good zoo.... the Pandas are cute and usually pretty active and the Sloth bears always seem to be doing something pretty entertaining. (The National Aquarium on the other hand is god awful). FH took me to the Hirshhorn as the first stop on our first date down there, he got a docent who gave us a private tour. It's a great modern art museum and has a nice sculpture garden... so I would definitely recommend that... most of the museums are free too (as is the zoo) take advantage of your tax dollars at work!!!
Hmmm.... for food... There is a restaurant called Farenheit in the Ritz Carlton that he took me to on our first date down there, it was amazing (and the waitress kept calling me 'my lady' which was odd, but she was adorable) One of the best brunches I've ever had was at Belga Cafe. FH orders Green eggs and ham and I have the crepes with bananas and Nutella Mmmmmmm...
I'll ask him about hotels when he comes home tomorrow... (he's actually down in DC right now for FBIL's stupid Halloween party that I refused to go to)

I do what I can. It is really a lot of fun down there, there is so much to do. If it weren't for school I probably would have ended up moving down there instead of him coming up here...
