Hi Ladies. I need some advice. I am seriously considering booking the Watermill in Smithtown for my '04 wedding. My question is, what are some 'negotiating' items that you were able to include in your price? I'm nervous about signing the contract because I'm sure if the price I'm getting is even a good one for a Saturday night in November. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Re: Watermill
Price is hard to negotiate anywhere but getting more for your money is almost as good, i had them add things such as a pasta dish. Good Luck I can give you the full review in may

Re: Watermill
We had them upgrade the fish choice to a chillian sea bass, add a few items to the CH (which was over the top to begin with) and they 'threw in' an ice sculpture. We had our reception at Watermill over a year ago. You made a great choice we are still receiving compliments on our wedding.

Re: Watermill
HI,
I just booked at watermill for may 2004 and I thought our price was reasonable. FM me if you want to know. They didnt include the ice sculpture but we really werent too disappointed. They did offer a garden cocktail hour -weather permitting which I think is standard for a spring reception. We are getting the standard menu but havent chosen the menu just yet. I'm gonna try getting the chilean sea bass !! LOL

I need to find out about the Ice Sculpture, I can recall someone telling me about it, but I did not pick one out. We were able to get a great deal cause we booked close to our date (4months before) this is a great thing to do if your not set on a date/if your flexible

I wish I could have done that but I think it would have driven me nuts not knowing when to book things for, has anyone seen the choices for ice sculptures?

Re: Watermill
They did throw in an ice sculpture for us and the banquet manager told me that they can do just about anything we wanted. Now I just have to come up with something.

I work in sales and the rule is if you don't ask for it, you will never get it. Don't be afraid to ask for certain things you want. Start by saying 'When I went to 'XYZ' they offered an ice sculpture. What do you offer? Also, by having more people, that could be a great selling point. 'Well, I am having 200 people and I would like to have a better dinner selection. What can you offer me?' Remember, they need your business. Make them want you. Don't be shy and ask 'Is this the best price you can give me?' Also if you are a little flexible with the date, you can get more for your money. Lastly, the person you are dealing with usually is not the money decision maker. Ask upfront, if you can speak that person. This eliminates the go between you and the banquet manager. I hope this helps.
