Has anyone had or been to a ceremony at the Watermill? FH and I really like it there but when we called they told us that if we were to have our ceremony there that we would have to have it at either 11:30 or 12:30, with the reception immediately following. Thats kind of a deal breaker for us since we want to have an evening wedding, but I thought that it was strange that they restrict you to a morning ceremony. Kinda bummed out. Has anyone ever heard of this? Or has anyone been to an evening ceremony there?

Re: Watermill question
we are having our ceremony there they told us thatit had to be at 11:30 and ch starts at 12 it kinda stinks since we are going to have to get there early to take our pics but all in all it is a beautiful place we were both very impressed with everything they had to offer. my parents got married there 30 years ago so it was the first and last place we looked at.

Re: Watermill question
We are getting married the day after you and at the WATERMILL....we are almost hall/date twins. What room are you having your reception in?
In regard to original question be asked: Your righ....the Watermill does have strict ceremony rules. My guess is because they have two functions in one day....plus day weddings. I wouldn't try to convince them to change it because you don't want the staff to be confused on the day of your wedding.
My fiance and I checked out 30 different places to have our reception. Although we liked a lot of them, the Watermill was exactly what we were looking for...they offered us a great package, the grounds are beautiful inside and out, and the BM we are using is AMAZING!!! All this together, selecting the Watermill was an easy decision for us to make.
Best of luck...hope you find the perfect place for you.

Re: Watermill question
I beleive I went to a wedding there last year, but I thought it was evening.
I would imagine it is because of the multi event issue

I booked there too, my wedding ceremony is at 12:00pm. I really wanted an evening wedding but they told they do not have evening ceremonies.

Re: Watermill question
i had a daytime wedding there---and there was a time when we were considering making it an evening reception--and they told us they couldn't do an evening ceremony. i think it had to do with the fact that another event/wedding can go on during the daytime...and they don't want them to overlap? not sure

Re: Watermill question
My cousin had a Sunday wedding there and her ceremony started at 11:30. I just thought it was because it was a Sunday. I was a BM and missed half of the CH because we were taking pictures.

I had looked at the Watermill too. Ceremonies only take place in the afternoon because they take place in the reception rooms if not done outside. It takes too much time to break down a reception, set up a ceremony, and then break it down again for a reception.

ahhh ok this makes sense. I was like, the other place that we looked at, and many others, have 2 events at a time and they did not have the same time restrictions. But if they hold the ceremony in one of the reception rooms, then that I understand. Its a shame because we really did love that place but are pretty firm on Sat night. Congrats to all the Watermill brides - its beautiful!!!

Re: Watermill question
Shameless plug, but check out the North Ritz Club on Jericho Turnpike in Syosset. They have a separate ceremony room and only do one wedding at a time. There is also an outdoor space for the cermony if weather permits.

Yes, behind those really nice drapes in the 'chapel' are the dinner tables fully set and ready to be moved into place for the reception.

Re: Watermill question
This is strange because I was a BM for my friend there April 4th, just a couple of weeks ago. She got married there, at 6pm. It was a 1/2 hour long on a Friday night, and her wedding started at 630pm. Maybe Sat and Sun they do it differently??? BTW it was the best wedding I've been to, great place, so good luck!

I love the North Ritz also but they are booked every Sat night in April and May, and June just gets too expensive for what we were trying to work with. But also - gorgeous!!

Re: Watermill question
FH cousins wedding is there next weekend and her ceremony starts at 6pm. It is on Sat may 3rd. Not sure why they wouldn't have an evening ceremony
