WATERMILL VS. FOX HOLLOW

Hi Everyone,
(and congratulations!)

I am fairly new to the whole searching thing, as are most people when they are engaged, but my fiance and i think that we have our RH narrowed down to either the Watermill or Fox Hollow. Any opinions on either?

A few things---
We plan on getting married April 2012 and are paying for it ourselves. This being said, we would absolutely love a Saturday night wedding, what have been your guests' opinions on sunday and friday weddings?

Also, we have a significant majority of our guests coming from out of state and country, so we need a hotel-- a pro to the Fox Hollow is that the hotel is next door, but the rate is high--- is it rude of me to tell my guests that the hotel is next door but with a rate of at least 199/night?

Finally, at the Watermill, we would have the downstairs room and I think it would have a 'one-wedding' type of feel since we would have the whole downstairs, whereas at Fox Hollow, a person seems to be more likely to bump into or hear another party going on.

Thoughts?? Opinions please!!! :)
Thank you!!!

FH and I are paying for the wedding ourselves. We have a lot of OOT guests too and we decided it would be best to have the hotel right there. Granted, it's a little more expensive than the other local hotels, but I wanted my guests to feel comfortable enough to drink and then walk over to pass out in their own beds... while getting a great hangover breakfast. We're doing a Thursday wedding though, so it's a little different. We wanted to keep it in budget. We chose a Thursday to keep ALL the prices down and so far it has helped. Good luck with planning!

I booked rooms at the Holiday Inn that has free shuttle service since the Fox Hollow is so expensive. They are opening up a brand new room in the back that seems to be totally seperate from the other rooms, so it would feel like a one wedding place

we were married in December but our guests didnt seem to mind the high cost of the Fox Hollow hotel. they all loved it was right next door.

Everything was great at our wedding. I just posted my wedding review with more detail!

I'm booked at Fox Hollow and the higher price of the hotel made me nervous-- we got a rate of 165 in January for the rooms-- but each room comes with a pullout bed so people can split the costs if they room together.

But there is also the Holiday Inn- so you can give your guests options.

Wish i knew more about the Watermill..

HTH...good luck!

I'm getting married at the Watermill - it was honestly the first place we saw and we booked it immidiately. We're using the 'Carnegie' room for both reception and ceremony and can't wait. For our guests that need a hotel, we're booked at the Marriot Islandia, which is about 8-10 minutes away, and when you do a room block comes to $109 a day.

Hope that helps!

Hi, We are getting married at The Watermill. We love it there! A plus to them is that they have the holiday inn express nearby that provides free shuttle service. They were great to work with. they also gave us a free room for the night of the wedding. We are getting married in the downstairs room also. Hope that helps

I am getting married at watermill and could not love it more! they have been so flexible and great to work with. my oot guests are staying at the hyatt hauppauge. it is about ten min away and has a rate of 99 !! there is no shutte but with the cheap rate, thats how i justified it. the other hotels were at least 140 for my night. the hotel with the shuttle needed ten rooms in order to get it. i didnt know if i woud have ten and thought the other hotels were nicer.
go with the watermill !!!!!!!!!! fm for more info

in regards to the day....I am having a thurs night (next day is vets day so most have off). we havent heard many complaints..but listen ~ this is your day!! you do what you can afford (we are!) and those who truly love you guys will be there!

Hi there! and Welcome!!

I can only speak to the Fox Hollow because I have never attended a wedding at the Watermill but one of my best friends got married at the Fox Hollow this past August and her wedding was beautiful!!! The food and service was great and while at the reception, I actually never bumped into a person from another wedding.

If I had to choose between Friday or Sunday, I would probably pick Sunday only because I've been to many Friday night weddings in the past and it's always a hassel to take off a day of work (just my opinion, of course!)

Re: WATERMILL VS. FOX HOLLOW

we got married on a Sunday Afternoon at the Fox Hollow, had our hotel block at the Inn next door.

Those who were from OOT loved that the hotel was right next door, they figured the cost was worth it for the convenience. the other hotels I looked at either didnt have shuttles or the suttle would run with limited service, and the guests liked being able to go back to the hotel early if they wanted.

Our wedding was the sunday of MLK weekend, so Monday was a holiday for most, and they enjoyed the sunday afternoon. It let OOTers fly in on Saturday, and be rested of Monday morning flights. The guests from the area liked that it was an afternoon, they were able to get home early enough to rest for work the next day.

I did not look at the Watermill, but I LOVED our wedding at the fox hollow. We were the only wedding at our time frame, so we got the one wedding at a time feel, and people are still raving about the food, over a year later.

I hope this helps.

My FH and I looked at both Watermill and Fox Hollow.... we booked with the Watermill and absolutely love it but Fox Hollow was really nice as well.

The big reason we did not book at the fox hollow was because they wanted us to gurantee 175 people, and at the time, our guest list was only 174!! We did not want to have to gurantee more than we knew would come, let alone more than we were inviting! We went with the watermill because they gave us a low gurantee, a fantastic price (less than the fox hollow) and they threw in a lot of extras

Good luck! Remember, do whatever you feel is right!

As a guest, I would 100% rather attend a Friday wedding over a Sunday.....I think people will enjoy themselves more friday knowing that they do not have work the next day.

If you go for Fox Hollow, I would def give your guests the option of 2 different hotels.

My cousin got married at the Watermill last year and it was really nice....and CH had a TON of food.

One thing that bothered me about Fox Hollow was the cocktail hour room...although I believe that have plans to renovate it.

Re: WATERMILL VS. FOX HOLLOW

We're getting married on a Sunday night.
What we're doing is letting people know ahead of time that the wedding isn't a Saturday night. All the immediate family members have decided to take that Monday off. Other guests have also decided to take the Monday. Some people have already said it's a bit inconvenient but will make it anyway!
We didn't like the Friday night idea because personally, I'm really tired on Fridays, so is my FH. So we thought guests would probably be tired after a long week of work as well. Also, with traffic some people might not be able to make it or have to take the Friday off anyway. I think Sunday at least gives them the choice to either take the Monday or leave a bit early or just deal with the hangover at work that Monday

What about Saturday during the day?? We were between Saturday during the day or Sunday night....
