So now I'm realizing that maybe I should get my eyebrows waxed for my epics tomorrow. My eyebrows are pretty light and they are actually a good shape naturally, but I've got a cow lick on the left one and they could definitely use some neatening up.
Thing is I've only gotten them waxed once in my entire life...and I really don't remember how red I was afterwards and for how long.
If I get them done in the morning do you think that I'll be alright for our pictures at 5pm? I'm getting my makeup done at 2:30 if that helps. Also my skin is dry and I am not prone to zits or anything like that (if its relevant).
TIA!
ETA: Do you girls know of any threading places that are close to Glen Cove (north shore of Nassau)...I am definitely not going to be able to get this done today, and I want to minimize my chances of being red!

Re: Waxing?
Hmmm I THINK so. I personally have never waxed, but I'm trying to think of my friends that do...
A couple of my friends w/ really fair skin usually have red marks for a few hours after

You'd be better off if you could get it done today.

Re: Waxing?
I don't know.... I personally wouldn't chance it if you don't do it regularly. I got mine waxed on a Sunday about 3 weeks ago. 4 days later I still had red bumps - that area of my body is just not used to it (I haven't gotten them waxed in like 4 years). I don't have that problem even with my bikini wax.
I don't want to scare you - I just thought you should know my experience... because you asked

Re: Waxing?
lucky you!!! i have the get my eyebrows waxed every 5 days, but since i don't have the time or money i settle for every Saturday. & if i miss a week i look horrible. this has been since i was 13. it $ucks big time.
everyone's skin is different, however since you are soo light you should try & go today. cold aloe can help reduce the redness.

Re: Waxing?
IMO, if you have to get them waxed, go today. This gives you plenty of time for redness to go away. I have been waxing my eyebrows for years and eventhough my skin is probably used to it by now, I still get red for a while after I leave the salon.
Also, I TOTALLY recommend threading, just not my lady, lol. I tried it after I got burned waxing once and I hardly ever get waxed anymore (unless its an emergency).....threading kind of hurts, I won't lie, but not anymore than waxing. Also, it ensures that you won't get burned or your skin won't break out if you are allergic to the wax!

Re: Waxing?
Anyone know of anyone that does threading around the Glen Cove/Sea Cliff/Glen Head/Greenvale area?? I really don't think I'm going to be able to go today...I gotta get FSD and then I have school tonight.

Re: Waxing?
You don't know how your skin is going to react, you may get red bumps on your forehead if you don't normally wax. It would be much better to get them done soon and not the day of the epics.

Honestly though, I just pluck my eyebrows rather than go get them done anymore. I have a strong natural shape and I just pluck the strays underneath. Carefully, so I don't mess up the shape.

Re: Waxing?
get threaded, its a lot healthier and less risky. IF (big IF) you were to have any sort of reaction to the wax, you don't know how long you'll have said reaction, I used to get waxed every two weeks, sometimes I'd be red for 5 minutes, 5 hours, even 5 days (yea, not cool, dumb chick) at least with threading, they're not PULLING on the skin and there's no chemicals involved. just go in, say 'its my first time, i think i need a touch-up' and they'll walk you through it.

If you can go today I would and then put neosporin (spelling sorry). I get VERY red and this helps me.

I personally wouldnt get them done the same day. I am normally red for about a day afterwards.

i looooove threading...i would never go back to waxing! too many issues...skin gets irritated, they can easily mess up...to me i think threading gives you a more natural look but it depends on how much eyebrows you're working with! but if you have to get them waxed i agree with most of the girls and say get it done today!
all of the threading places i go to are in floral park/bellrose Queens...sorry i cant be of much help!

I use Sara at DiRosa in Franklin Square - not too far from you - really good at threading. I can't get waxed, my skin is too sensitive and this has been the answer. She's great.

you can always try vaseline as a quick and temporary fix to hold the cowlick in place
