Waxing vs. Shaving...

What are you doing for the big day? I usually wax my lip and eyebrows and have never waxed anything else. I was considering my legs and bikini area, but never got that. (I heard bikini is painful). What are you all doing?

Re: Waxing vs. Shaving...

How bad does the bikini waxing hurt? And what's the difference between a regular one and a Brazilian one... I heard a few girls talking about it at work?

I had a bikini wax done once and it hurt so bad.

A brazilian is when they take off EVERYTHING! the regular is just like getting rid of the edges.

I beg you - don't shave!

I am a body hair freak- and that is the worst thing you can do to your skin and hair follicle! Waxing, although more painful, is an ancient method of hair removal (threading is even better) and the hair wil always grow back thinner and softer, and will grow in the correct direction. If you have ever shaved your bikini line, you know that the hair gets ingrown and itchy and hard, and does not look pretty!

A brazilian wax, when done correctly, does not hurt that badly...and a tylenol an hour beforehand does dull it. Just DON'T do it the week before your period. PAIN!

There are also several kinds of brazilian, traditioanlly, they take off everything (it's heaven! I love it - FH loves it even more.) I do not know any places in LI, but I do have a few suggestions for manhattan if you work here...

Was anyone embarrassed to do the brazilian wax? and not to be gross but how much hair has to be there? I would be so embarrassed and prob shave but then mess up by taking off too much. Who do you reccommend I am considering it now before the wedding to see how bad it hurts and to recooperate !!!

Re: Waxing vs. Shaving...

You need 1/4 inch of hair for waxing to be effective.

it's not embarrasing to do the brazilian because the ladies that do it are totally unphased by a half naked woman on the table. They don't care, so you shouldnt! There is a place in the city that gives you little paper undies to wear if you are embarrased, but i think the get in the way.

I would suggest getting it done a few months before-great idea. see how you like it - I can't imagine anyone (or any FH) that wouldn't!

Honestly, I think it is the greatest thing in the world. You will feel so CLEAN and sexy!

am I weird for advocating this so passionately?

No its not wierd lol, I really really want to do this, years ago like 10 I had a bikini wax and it hurt so bad and I broke out in a rash I had it done at finger faces and toes in merrick or bellmore and since then ive been so scared to do it again. Hmmm ok Im gonna do it- where in the city what is the name. thank you!!

Re: Waxing vs. Shaving...

I have friends that wax and some who share, and we've all discussed this before. My friends who wax all do so because they break out and get ingrown hairs if they shave. They have told me, and I've listened, to not bother with waxing because I get a very smooth shave and no bumps. Yes, waxing lasts longer and it may make your hair softer, but i personally have no issue shaving. It takes an extra five minutes in the shower, but I would rather do that than be in pain.

FYI, I have never waxed a single part of my body, so I may not be the speaking words of wisdom, just my opinion.

The Brazilian wax hurts the first time - hurts like hell actually. But you do get used to it. Take an advil about an hour before.

It's not embarrassing at all. The ladies at my place do not care at all. I use Giselle at J Sisters on 35th street. A few of my friends alsoo use them but there are lots of places that do it, I'm sure.
