It looks like a plum color to me.... What are you not happy with? The color? Or in general? They look great to me!!! It's a DIY, give yourself a break!
ETS: maybe not plum, more of a cranberry wine... what color are you going for?
I think they look great! If you are looking for a more reddish color then just repaint the outside. Otherwise I think you did a fine job!

it's hard to tell because the table is a similar color. Maybe take a pic on a light tablecloth

Im trying to get a red/maroon/cranberry color........darkish reddish color. I'll have to take another pic on a lighter surface I think. Any ideas on how to make it shiny??

I think they look nice. Pretty much what I did but the outside was brown. If you want shiny you can put a coat of polyurethane. It's the same thing they put on wood floors and stairs to give it a shine. The more you put on, the shinier they'll be.

get some spray varnish and spray them. Michael's/ AC Moore- they all have it.

I think they look great!! You can tell that its red or at least in the red family.
These are great!!! The outside looks reddish to me. When you say shiney are you referring to a gloss finish? I would just try a clear gloss to keep the colors nice and smooth.
