and now my Marine wants to re-enlist. I don't think I can handle this lifestyle for another 4 years.................what would you do?

aw sweetie
I would cry my eyes out, but I'd have to let him do what makes him happy.
I have a friend who is in your situation right now- after many tears and heated arguments with her FH, she found out that he is actually SCARED to do something other than the military, because that's all he'd known for years. He never went to college, and was afraid that he couldn't DO anything other than be a military man.
my thoughts are with you

I would definitely have a sit-down talk with him & discuss your feelings & see what he is feeling. In the end though I think he needs to follow his heart & do what he needs to do. But he also has to know how you feel about it and how his decision affects you.
I am THIS CLOSE to being certified to teach in NY and have an amazing opportunity at my old high school and now this. I won't make enough anywhere else to pay back my NYS education and I know he only wants to do this because he wants to ensure he can pay the bills and take care of me. He doesn't love being in the Marines anymore actually he really dislikes it.

Honestly, I never could marry a Marine or someone in the military. I just couldn't live with the worry day in and day out. Even when my DH was considering becoming a cop, we discussed it and decided it would be too much pressure for us as a couple. I give everyone who does credit, but it isn't a lifestyle I could live with. Good luck!

Did you try sitting down and talking to him about it, telling him how you feel?
As you know, my brother is a Marine as well, and is coming up on his tenth year. He has just recently realized how hard his life choices have been on the rest of the family, and will not be re-enlisting at the end of this term. Part of what made him realize it was the fact that he's fallen in love with a wonderful girl and he wants to be serious with her. He knows that the Marine lifestyle is difficult...and he is going to be leaving that life so that he can start a new phase of his life. I think you need to sit down and talk to your fiance....if he doesn't love it, and it makes you crazy - it's just not worth it, in my opinion I completely understand what you are going through....and as always, I'm here if you need to chat
