We are moving to Albany Temporarily and

could anyone give me some feedback as to which areas to live in or which areas I need to avoid? We don't want to stay there longer than 6 mos. We are only moving b/c DH just got based there and if we were to stay in long Island, we would only see each 3 to 4 times a week. We are eventually trying to get to TX (my home state)

saratoga is a nice area.

stay AWAY from the downtown albany area - it's all drunk college kids!!!

saratoga is gorgeous

i have a friend that lives in ballston lake - which is not as far as saratoga, but still nice

clifton park is nice and very close to albany

if you can afford it - loudonville is gorgeous!
i went to college there and used to drool at all of the houses. the areas surrounding loudonville are nice also

I lived in Albany for a couple of years. I think staying in Albany itself was good, but I was younger then and so were most of my neighbors. Downtown Albany has had a sort of revitilization over the past couple of years. The brownstones on Lark Street are nice. But Saratoga Springs is more than 30 minuts away from Albany. With traffic (especially in the summer) it can run more than 1.5 hours. The following cities are nice:
Niskayuna
Colonie
Loudonville - pricey (but nothing compared to LI! )
Latham
Parts of Schnectady
Parts of Watervliet
Remember that parts of all of the cities surrounding the city of Albany with have the nice parts and the not so nice parts.

I had family in Clifton Park & Balston Lake.
Both very nice areas. And my grandparents had apartment in oth places, so even though it is suburban, it is not just houses.
