We came back from vacation last night and picked up our puppy and he is not the same.
I just picked up my 17 week old puppy from my sil's place and he has been acting all weird. She told me he has diareah( sp), she said that she stopped feeding him the dry food becasue he didnt like it as much as the canned food ( no duh ) and he threw up for the first time ever last night and has diarea for the first time. He is usually very playful and active and now he is lethargic and sleeps anywhere and everywhere, also I have never ever heard him bark before and now he is non stop barking. I dont know what happened? He also is afraid of coming up the stairs- he used to run up the stairs before, HELP!!!!!

It is just an adjustment phase. He was with you both, then at another home, then you came back. That is a lot for a new puppy. They are very sensitive. For the upset tummy, boil some rice and boneless chicken. Mix that in with his food. That will help settle the belly. New puppies need to be handled with care. They can't be bounced around from place to place. Give him some time and he will settle back in. Also. make sure that he didn't eat anything funky at your SIL's house. Keep him on his routine as much as possible now.

My dog is very attached to my mother and myself and whenever we leave him with someone else to watch him even if it is just for a few hours he gets the same way. For example, my friend lives a few houses down and has a maltese. Her dog and mine are the same age and have been playing together since they were puppies (they are now 3). Our e-party was a few weeks ago and I brought him down to her house and we figured since she would be at the party they could stay in her apartment for the few hours and play together. Well when we went to pick him up that night her was acting nothing like he usually does. Throughout the night he threw up and had diarrhea for the next 2 days. We asked the vet and she said it is anxiety and that he was upset and mad at us for leaving him. But after a few days he was back to being his normal playful self and has been fine since. Just give him some time and I am sure he'll be okay

It sounds weird but my vet reccommended Mylanta (plain not flavored) for upset stoumach. The doggy will lick it right off the spoon and feel better in no time.

I agree with the rice but I'd say be careful about the chicken - for a while that was the only thing that made my dog throw up.
Other than the rice, I would get right into the EXACT routine you had before vacation. No canned food, correct the barking, etc, so on.
And lots of hugs too!!
Our dogs were not thrilled with us when returned from HM and they are 9, 11 & 13 yrs old. It's a lot for a puppy to adjust to.
