We don't have altar servers for a ceremony right?

My deacon mentioned tips for the altar servers...which makes zero sense to me- we're having a ceremony! That means no communion, hence no servers, correct?

Or am I completely wrong here?

My friend just had a ceremony and they had one altar server. She helped to take the bride's flowers (and mine - I was the MOH), get the priest the bible, microphone, etc. I've seen it without one though too, so I would recommend confirming with your church. HTH!

Thanks! Yeah, I responded to my Deacon's email and haven't heard anything. So I guess we do have servers!

Hmmm should I be tipping the organist/vocalist too?

yeah i actually just went to a wedding that was just a ceremony and they had two altar servers....hopefully he replies to you soon!

Tara,
My nephews are altar servers and they told me that yes they still use them if there is not a full mass. They help hold the container of the holy water that father will bless everyone with, they will hold the bible when needed, and anything else that the father needs help with. I am not sure if your church does it differently though.

I honestly cannot believe it...especially since I'm basically in limbo as I'm still in Virginia - but we leave TOMORROW!!! WOOHOO! We'll make a pitstop at Camden Yards to see the Yanks play Baltimore and then it's full speed ahead!!

My sister picked up our screen printed mugs so we'll be putting together favors this weekend!

By the way, anyone know how much I should tip the altar servers? TIA!

no, you will at least have one. That is what we have. They don't only help with the communion. They also help with other parts of the mass/ceremony such as bringing over the bible before the gospel.

I'm having a ceremony and the Priest told me there will be two alter boys and a sacristan at the ceremony. he told me $10 each would be nice.

My Nephews said that when they serve at a wedding they get $10.00 (Hope that helps you)

We had two at our ceremony---two sweet girls--it was their first wedding so they were so excited and so cute---they still need to help with the Bible and holy water and other things even w/o communion.
