We got an apartment!!!

I'm so excited - the complex where we want to live has an apartment opening up on July 5th!

I can't wait!

Now, all I need is a job offer so we can pay for it

it's not even in the DC area - I'm in Harrisonburg, which is in the Shenandoah Valley - about 2 1/2 hours from DC.

That's why it's so cheap. I have friends getting similar apartments to this up there for $1700 a month

gotcha!!! okay, yeah, they are paying an arm and a leg for a one bedroom with a baby on the way and they need to be in a metropolitan city area. thanks. good luck with the place!!! it looks incredible!!!

Their best bet would be to consider looking out in fairfax or something - still pricey but a little less than DC/Alexandria. My friend had a 2 bedroom/2 bath in Fairfax for like $1200 i think.

Yeah - and sadly, this is one of the more expensive ones. My friends are paying 6 something for a 2 bedroom in a different area of the city (yeah, this little dinky town is actually considered a city )

ETA: but, let it be known, that my salary is at least $10,000 year less as a teacher than it would be on Long Island

Your salary may be $10K less but you're spending about $12K la year less in rent! I wish I could get FI to move.... How's the job market in healthcare by you, Deb?

Hmm, healthcare. I'm in education, so i'm not too certain... but this whole area is growing. I don't know if you're familiar with Charlottesville, VA right now, but the rumors are that within 10 year this will kind of be like that (a larger town basically).

I do know, however, that they have outgrown the hospital, and are in the process of beginning to build a new, larger one which hopes to be completed in about 4 or 5 years if that gives you any indication

I do know housing prices are beginning to go up here though, so i'm hoping to be able to buy a townhome (if i can convince fh to stay ) soon while prices are still fairly low.
